Feeling dirty and grimy for extended periods of time is extremely draining on the mental well-being of humans. Psychological studies prove it is detrimental to our self-esteem and contentment. And no wonder; we are animals–homo sapiens, a kind of ape–that instinctively places high importance on personal grooming. Like monkeys and cats and birds in a zoo, one of the best ways to make us feel sad … is to make us feel gross to ourselves.
So here’s an easy saying from my therapist/zookeeper:
“If you feel like you hate the world, eat something.
If you feel like the world hates you, get some sleep.
If you feel like you hate yourself, take a shower.
You will probably feel much better.”
Do all three at once to become the perfect life form
There’s something so uniquely terrifying about memory issues. I feel like my self is slipping away from me.
Here’s the thing I feel like a lot of folks don’t get: I’m not trying to forget what you said. Honestly, I really tried not to. I can’t control what I do and don’t remember—forgetting things just happens. It’s annoying for you, I know, but for me it’s distressing as hell and when you make a big deal out of it rather than just reminding me you make me feel ashamed. I’ll remember that, at least.
It costs you nothing to be kind to people with memory problems. Please. It’s scary enough without people treating memory lapses as a personal failing.

Some of you think of Cops as kind of a symbolic figure representing “telling you what to do” & you’re Posting things like “acab includes fandom discourse” and I thuink the 80% white website needs to remember the reason why we hate cops is because they kill people
We hate cops because they’re a weapon for enforcing the state’s interests through violence. Like, they kill & imprison people. The antis don’t have a Quite Literal boot on your neck please god log off or talk to a Black person or something
To be SO fair like really generous there is something to be said for unlearning the habit of figuratively “policing” other people especially in the context of, like, not being a fucking snitch, “kill the cop in your head” etc etc, but can we not completely lose the plot re: what cops Are

My husband, an electrician, told me I have to reblog this.
For clarification’s sake, is this true everywhere? I ask because I know that different countries have different quality home electricity provision; American home electricity Ain’t Great compared with most of Europe, for example. In Wales I have never heard of this being a Thing, but our electricity comes in 240V flavour, so possibly the higher current naturally avoids this issue?
My British husband (not an electrician but electrician-adjacent) says yes this is true in the UK as well - anything that uses a lot of power should be plugged directly into the wall rather than an extension lead
