SOS SOS ROBESPIERRE HAS TAKEN OVER THE BUILDING

So we probably should’ve been a bit more worried about that weird guy with a sword at the last DashCon 2. For those unaware, Robespierre crashed the 2025 convention in an attempt to overthrow the monarchy and slay the Ballpit Queen. The newly knighted Sir Strange of Æons valiantly vanquished the interloper, but apparently her sword (Simone’s Dad’s Claymore, a.k.a. the Muppetslayer) only works on Muppets—Robespierre is back! His band of revolutionaries have now seized the bouncy castle. The clowns really don’t like how he’s chosen to redecorate.

While Sir Strange and the Ballpit Queen have successfully escaped Robespierre’s wrath, the future of the monarchy is uncertain. Robespierre has sworn revenge and is calling for Sir Strange’s execution on two charges of DashCon-spiracy, meanwhile, Strange has charged Robespierre with treachery and also being French.

As the only convention in southern Ontario with a guillotine permit, this puts us in a difficult position. The Muppet Joker’s tragic demise had an equally tragic effect on our insurance premiums, and we simply cannot afford more senseless bloodshed. Thankfully, laws often get overlooked in times of Revolution, and we’ve discovered that we’re allowed to commit crime if it’s a public service, as agreed upon by a democratic electorate. (You!)

As such, we’ve negotiated a tentative agreement between the two parties.

The Eight Tenets of the Royal-Revolutionary “Put The Sword Down” Agreement:

  1. The 2026 convention’s theme of “Galaxy” has been toppled, overthrown by the revolutionaries and replaced with “Revolution!” (Galaxy is permitted to be used in a later year.)
  2. The convention shall henceforth be referred to as DashCon 2: Vive La Révolution! as its official title.
  3. The Ball Pit Queen shall not be executed (for now), but will have no legal power, instead being used as a figurehead in case an event needs a little pizzazz.
  4. To appease our insurance overlords, the People (attendees of the convention) will be authorized to vote on who to kill. Each person will have only one vote, so cast it wisely—or don’t. We’re not cops.
  5. For accessibility of voting, VirtualDash attendees will also be able to vote on who to kill.
  6. The People shall choose between executing either Sir Strange, Lord of Æons, Wielder of the Muppetslayer and Honourable First Knight of the Realm… or Robespierre himself. Interesting.
  7. He who is chosen to die will be executed via guillotine live on stage. (Robespierre was insistent.)
  8. The severed head of the executed will be auctioned off for charity via raffle :)

Hey! Actually, VirtualDash panel applications are a separate form, which will go out in probably April? After ticket sales go live. We imagine that VirtualDash interest will increase after tickets get snapped up.

Don’t worry if you already applied through this form by accident - you can reapply in April-ish.

DashCon 2 is thrilled to open both this year’s Dealer’s Hall and Panel applications! As a reminder, both of these applications will be open until the end of the month (11:59 PM on Jan 31st). At that point, we will begin reviewing applications. Panel applications will take up to two weeks, while Dealer’s Hall applications could take as many as four. We appreciate your patience with us :)

AMV Showcase!!

Hi all,

Before we get into it, quick reminder: Dealer’s Hall and Panelist applications open this Thursday, on the 15th! Don’t forget to apply! (Hyperlinks lead to more info, listed on our website.)

Our Discord server has been abuzz with ideas since we announced our AMV Showcase, and we’re very pleased to give you more details.

The AMV Showcase is divided into two parts: the AMV Contest, which will happen in-person at the convention, and the Virtual Showcase, which will take place at VirtualDash on its Discord server.

Contest entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges. In general, judges are looking for creativity, editing quality, and a recognizable narrative/core theme(s).

Videos submitted for competition will also be screened at the Virtual Showcase. AMVs submitted exclusively to the Virtual Showcase will not be evaluated by judges, so entering is a relaxed, fun way to show off your creative work to other people.

To compete in the AMV Contest, any AMV entered will need to be assigned an appropriate category. Videos compete for the top spot within their specific category. Category themes are broad, typically referring to genre, with the exception of the Challenge category, which is specific and changes every year for the sake of freshness. For our debut year, this category is Tumblr Fandoms! (What else could it possibly be?)

Conversely, Virtual Showcase AMVs do not have to conform to any one category, as long as they adhere to all our rules and regulations (see below).

We’ve decided to allow NSFW panels this year, but they will be hosted exclusively in the evening on Saturday (“after dark” panels, if you will). That in combination with not wanting to exclude under-18 attendees from too much of the convention means there will be very few NSFW panel slots.

In summary, yes! you may, but be aware that the likelihood of your specific NSFW panel being accepted may be comparatively lower.

A question about the vendor hall, if 2 vendors want to share the same table do both vendors have to be accepted by the jury process or just one? Thank you!

If two artists apply together as a duo booth, then both artists will be evaluated as part of the jury process.

That said, if an artist wants to apply solo but doesn’t have enough merchandise to sustain a full table, we are allowing applications for half-tables. A half-table artist will need to be paired up with another person. There is no guarantee that any half-table artist will be paired up with someone of their choosing, but we try to make accommodations where we can.

Nope! Standard practice is that anyone can submit regardless of ticket status, so we’re following suit. That said, we will be prioritizing attendee submissions to the Contest, so if we get a large volume of applicants some non-attendee submissions may be pushed to Virtual Showcase exclusives.
