It’s amazing how much we can see ourselves in some of the other ape species and how much they likely see of themselves in us.
everyone in the comments going “haha two apes looking at a bug...”

three apes looking at a bug
hung out with my young cousin today and she showed me "soul bug school" which is the gap between her toy chest and the wall where she secretly puts every dead bug she finds in the house
I have just dispatched Bear(8) and Bug(5) to the corner shop (200 yards away) for the first time. It’s all pavements in their own neighbourhood passing houses of their friends. I can pretty much see it from here. There’s one quiet residential intersection. I am complimenting myself on my bravery.
Aaand they’re off. Bear affected the mannerisms of a teen pop star throughout the mission assignment (Bug requested that I write the shopping list of two items on a piece of paper.) (bug requested that I give them the pen I wrote the list with to take, as Bug wanted to tick the items off as they found them.)
We need cream and sugar to make gluten free churros. bug added a note: NOT vegan cream.
Bear added sunglasses to their fit.
Bear felt tremendously cool and swaggered and almost immediately attempted to cross the intersection without looking. Bug pulled them back because a car was approaching. Bear continued chattering.
Mouse became so jealous that they immediately put on their shoes to follow.
(The kids - Bear, aged 8; Bug, 5; Mouse, 2) are making themselves wooly winter hats on the circular knitting machine. It goes about as well as you’d expect, as they are aged eight, five and three. Bear is turning the handle, Bug is winding the wool, and Mouse is biting holes in the wool while turning in circles to entangle themselves properly and emitting screams)
Bear: we’re like the Three Fates.
Bear: I’m the one who knits the thread of fate.
Bear: Bug is the one who winds it.
Bear: and Mouse is the one who bites it off when the person’s life is over
Me: oh, I thought Mouse was the one who makes a mess of your life for you
Ok this isn't a bug but I need to share - LOOK at these absolutely minuscule precious little poppies
