Background: Merlin was hatched from an egg that produced twin Puttimon. Perhaps because one egg hatching into two Digimon is a rare occurrence, Merlin and his twin, Mykah, started their lives in the Primary Village very weak, even for newborns. Their newborn stage of being confined to their cradle lasted longer than usual, and even once they could move around, they had difficulty playing with the other Fresh-level Digimon in the village their own age, as they were easy to pick on and too frail even for friendly play at times.
Fortunately, there was a DemiMeramon (named Balthazar) who hatched roughly a year before them and took it upon himself to stick close to them, offering them an ally and friend. The three of them spent more and more time together as days went by, until both twins looked up to Balthazar as their big brother. He didn’t mind in the least, happy that his efforts to help them had resulted in something good for all of them.
The three were inseparable, even once the twins reached their Rookie forms and outgrew their initial weakness. With all three siblings being old enough to set out on their own, they did so together. They travel together to this day without much of a particular goal or destination, and have developed a sort of habit of taking turns letting one another decide where to go and what to do next once one “adventure” is finished.
Personality: Merlin falls into a “chaotic neutral” category. He developed a less-than-healthy curiosity and taste for mischief at a young age, and being subject to his whims, it’s likely this is what lead him away from Digivolution into a Holy species. Even at Champion levels and higher, he could very well be considered a trickster, and maybe even a bit of a smartass. Even so, he embraces and enjoys what he turned out to be despite his beginnings, and took a liking to the arcane, occult, and dark magic. He has absolutely no problem with delving into lore and magical arts many would consider forbidden, sometimes for no reason other than that it isforbidden.
More than most things, Merlin values his liberty and individuality, having somewhat of a distaste for what would be considered societal norms in the human world. When faced with authority, Merlin is the type to challenge it, asking “why” and refusing to settle for anything less than a sound reason to do as he’s told. The exception to this would likely be Balthazar, who he will usually listen to out of a strong sense of trust. Merlin does not actively seek out conflict, but given his unfettered nature, it eventually finds him anyway, and it’s nearly certain he will slip his way out of a fight or use “dirty tricks” rather than fighting a foe head-on.
