In the world of writing, there’s a saying that goes something like “the way you make a story arc is you introduce a guy, you put him up a tree, you throw rocks at him, and then you get him down from the tree” and I’ve noticed that for some reason, people who write m/m seem to have a philosophy of putting a guy up a tree, throwing rocks at him, then throwing hammers at him, then throwing bombs at him, then stabbing him to death, then burning the body, and then rolling over the ashes with a steamroller
