kian is such a good character (narratively speaking) because the nature of his goal is good. he’s witnessed four thousand years of human suffering at the “hands” of paranormal entities who, even when trying to help, still manage to fuck people in the head because they have ab inherently harmful nature. he’s not wrong in wanting to separate the two realities. i feel like the goal of the order and the goal of kian are very similar: to not have to deal with the paranormal anymore, to live in a world that is safe for the people around them. however, that doesn’t save him from the fact that he is just. cruel. his idea boils down to genocide. he manipulates and tortures and kills to get what he wants, and on top of all of that he’s just power-hungry and vengeful. that was probably the only reason he “lost” in calamidade; joui made him feel weak, so he chose killing him over trying to escape or continue enacting his plan. like, in this way he becomes similar to the very entities he worked so hard to get rid of, which is really the only thing that makes him different from your average order agent. i remember cellbit saying that the names of kian and verissimo are meant to comtrast each other; kian wants his name to be remembered, and verissimo wants his name to be forgotten. i think that’s a pretty good overview of their characters. they want the same thing, they just have drastically different ideas on how to acheive it. and that’s what makes kian interesting
