new years resolution: draw

One of my favorite bits of random FiM canon is that Fluttershy draws. There was a time that I was so very hesitant about sharing my art with anyone. Still feel that way sometimes. I wonder if Fluttershy felt the same way.

In some ways, it feels like just yesterday I was drawing my first pony. In other ways, it feels like a lifetime ago. Usually for these anniversary posts, I wax on about all the good the fandom has done. All the creative endeavors it has inspired. This time, I just want to say what this show meant to me, personally.

Pony’s legacy, for me, will always be signing autographs at the 2014 PMV Bronycon panel. It’s when I gave away my Pinkie Plushie to a girl that really loved Pinkie. It’s drawing people’s OCs in the hallway of BABScon. It’s telling fellow creatives to DRAW SOMETHING, and posting drawn replies in reddit threads. It’s seeing Equestria Girls 1+2 five times in theaters. Paying for tickets to the MLP Movie for a family of pony fans who had no money to spare on fun things at the time. Getting oodles of birthday art, and fan art for Miss Pie’s Monsters. Drawing pony comics late into the night to comfort myself through hard times. Becoming more comfortable and accepting with who I am. Baking a coffee cake with my siblings in celebration of the season 2 finale. It’s when a pony friend drove four hours to be with me after my friend died. It’s being too inspired to be too afraid to try. And creating the friendships I didn’t even know my life desperately needed. Also, drawing a lot of really weird crap.

I will never stop loving these colorful marshmallow equines.

Context: In Koreo’s latest adventure in the Convergence Manifesto, some bad guys tried to hijack the train we were riding. Koreo “borrowed” a fellow passenger’s poisonous frog collection that got loose during the commotion and, after downing a Potion of Animal Friendship, ordered the frogs to swarm one of the baddies.

It did not go well.

Fluttershy is an expert on reforming monsters, fae creatures, cursed cryptics, demons, etc.

The story of My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic has ended.

But, to paraphrase an old friend, the adventure continues forever onward.

To all the bronies who feel like they’ve missed their chance to contribute; You haven’t miss your opportunity. Your time is now. Continue creating, whether that be pony or pony-inspired content, because the world will always need a little more magic.

…What a wonderful community we all created together. What a fantastic experience this has all been. It feels so unreal at times. But we did a pretty gosh darn good job of creating real magic in real life. When will we get the chance to see that again?

Hopefully, every single day, if we’re up to it.
