about

The latest installment of FORM@ RECORDS’ popular compilation series, Art Form, is finally here — Art Form 4.
Although it has been released only about half a year after the previous volume, getting to this point was by no means easy. The concept had been in mind since the Art Form 3 era, and right after that release we began gathering tracks for this new compilation. At one point, we thought we might be able to release it as early as April or May. While the tracks our artists sent us were all outstanding, they were also quite diverse in genre, which made it difficult to achieve a cohesive compilation.
As a result, we decided to create the first-ever compilation for our sub-series SLIT ART, with a different musical direction from Art Form. By separating the tracks according to genre, we reallocated the submissions and planned to release both projects simultaneously.

We could share many behind-the-scenes stories, but above all, we are simply happy that both projects are now complete and ready to share with you.

Incidentally, with the exception of Missing Project, the lineup of artists on Art Form 4 is different from Art Form 3. This happened partly by chance, but also reflects our intentional choices. This does not mean we have grown distant from the artists who appeared previously. We see the Art Form series as a continuing platform — a place to introduce new artists to our audience as well as to provide a stage for familiar artists to take on new creative challenges.

Garamond: garamondmusic.bandcamp.com/music
Garamond sums up his sound as “deep electronic music built on 4/4 grooves and synth-driven journeys.” His tracks are shaped by a wide spectrum of influences, melting together flavours from across the electronic landscape to conjure up a warm sense of nostalgia and atmosphere. As with many of his releases, “Neon Dawn” invites you into a world that’s deep, slow-burning, and shimmering with memory — echoing the spirit of old rave days, the bittersweetness of growing up, and those endless-feeling summers.
Garamond’s musical inspiration draws from legends and visionaries like Aphex Twin, Vangelis, Gustav Holst (especially “The Planets”), Top Buzz, Massive Attack, LTJ Bukem, Joy Division, and 808 State. A signature blend that weaves ambient, downtempo, and classic rave into immersive, contemplative journeys—perfect for getting lost in thought or simply letting the night unfold.

Missing Project: elementsofsouls.bandcamp.com/music
While widely known in Japan as a game music creator, Yuji TECHNOuchi also has an extensive track record as a techno and house artist. Under his Missing Project moniker, he has been part of FORM@ RECORDS releases since Art Form 2 in 1998, later contributing to Re-Form Ver-1.0 and Art Form 3. His track “Poisson D’Avril -Galaxy Dub-,” included on Re-Form Ver-1.0, was selected for Virtual Dreams II by Music From Memory, once again showcasing to the world both its quality and enduring popularity.
The track included on Art Form 4 was originally started in 2001 as a Missing Project piece but was left unfinished. Now, more than 20 years later, he has finally completed it — truly a treasure of a track. We believe you will find that it sounds every bit as fresh and relevant today as it would have back then.

Cahl Sel: cahlsel.bandcamp.com/music
Cahl Sel is a San Francisco-based producer & DJ whose melody-led take on ambient house and techno first emerged with his 2022 debut "Every Moment E.P." on Reflective Records, followed by the "Blue E.P." in early 2025. Born and raised in SF, he's honed his musicianship through live performances across California, channeling raw improvisation into carefully crafted compositions.

M-Set: soundcloud.com/m-set
M-Set is the latest sonic identity of Scottish based producer Andrew Harvey, marking an evolution from his previous work in the Drum & Bass scene under the name Outlier. The M-Set project was born out of a desire to strip things back and to explore new musical horizons within techno and electro genres— genres that offer both a broad canvas and a slower BPM for his intricate sound design and immersive rhythmic exploration.
This new chapter signals more than just a change in tempo — it's a recalibration of artistic intent. Drawing inspiration from sources such as classic Detroit techno, electro, Tangerine Dream movie scores and even 90s Drum & Bass, M-Set weaves hypnotic grooves, industrial textures and sci-fi atmospherics into a sound that’s both precise and visceral.

Yamaoka: techno-yamaoka.seesaa.net
Formed by Yoshinori Yamazaki and Kenichi Oka, the duo was influenced by YMO and Kraftwerk. Since 1995, they have released over 150 works worldwide—including 12-inch singles, albums, compilation appearances, and remixes—on techno and electronic music labels in Belgium, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, France, and Japan. Their discography includes 30 twelve-inch singles and 45 albums.
Since 2007, the project has continued as Kenichi Oka’s solo work. Except for collaborations, the music is produced without using a PC, instead recorded in real time with equipment such as the Roland MC-50 and Korg minilogue.

A producer, DJ, and mastering engineer based in Sapporo, Japan, whose organic productions, DJ sets, and live acts blend graceful melodies with a unique funk-infused groove in perfect proportion, resonating with audiences worldwide.
Since the release of his first album in 2002, he has continued to release music on labels around the world, while also performing as a DJ across Asia, Europe, and Japan, including at events such as Balance organized by Mindgames, showcasing his wide-ranging artistic activities.

Cool Science: coolscience.bandcamp.com/music
As an artist, I try to reflect themes of nostalgia, hope, and longing. Emotions I feel can help humanity free itself from the shackles that technological advances have brought upon us. The paradox lies in doing so with the very tools that electronics provide. My main focus is exploring deep techno and immersive complex soundscapes. I began producing music in the early 2000s, mostly with VSTs. After a hiatus of over a decade and a half, I returned to producing, this time using mostly hardware instruments, inspired by the resurgence of the electronic music scenes around the world. I bought an old, battered MC-303 and that was it. After all these years, I feel I have a much clearer vision of the music I want to make. There where many mistakes along the way something reflected in the title of the track “Shokunin,” a reference to lifelong learning and craftsmanship, much like the art of woodwork. I remain heavily influenced by early Detroit techno, as well as the London, Manchester, Berlin and Antwerp sound. Bands like The Velvet Underground and Can shaped the rhythms I try to convey, mechanical but emotional.

The Vast Profound: fouriertransformlabel.bandcamp.com/music
The Vast Profound is Wil Russell, he first heard prototype electronic music on the Hip Hop Electro Albums in the early 80's, always preferring the instrumental tracks. Fast forward to his first rave in 1988 and then to the early nineties and he hooked up with long time graffiti partner and electronic music fan Simon Tappenden where they wrote as Pop Out & Play and released on several labels supporting the London tech-house sound. Wil still embodies the deeper side of electronic music with pad heavy compositions and co-runs the techno and house label Fourier Transform.

Rogue Directive:
Rogue Directive is not an artist — it’s an anomaly. A signal lost in transmission. A ghost protocol buried deep within the circuitry of a forgotten system.
Emerging from the cracks between synthetic memory and machine decay, Rogue Directive manifests as sound: dense, hypnotic techno shaped by entropy, resistance, and rhythm.
There is no origin, no destination. Only the pulse.
Only the directive.

Kuni-Ron: homerjp.bandcamp.com/music
He began listening to techno in the mid-1990s, exploring listening-oriented techno and Detroit techno. The influences of Ken Ishii (Rising Sun/Yoga), Warp’s AI series (especially Speedy J), Plastikman (Richie Hawtin), Dave Angel, and Dan Curtin can still be felt in his work.
Until around 2006, he produced techno tracks under the name TiNST. Since then, he has consolidated his parallel work in vocal-oriented music under the name Kuni-Ron, focusing his releases mainly through his own label, Homer.
His track “Approach” was written with IDM in mind, specifically for participation in the Art Form series, and showcases the breadth of his production range.

Mr. YT: www.discogs.com/ja/artist/13767-Mr-YT
A project by Yuji TECHNOuchi, just like Missing Project. In 1997, he gained attention with the release of “Brand New Day” on Generations, a sublabel of R&S Records. This track has retained its popularity for decades, still being played by DJs today. Around the same time, he also released works on Apollo and Global Cuts, both under the R&S Records umbrella, and under the name Disposabe on Diatomyc.
Since 2010, he has more frequently used the name Missing Soul, releasing extensively on Ron Trent’s Future Vision Records as well as his own label, Elements Of Souls.
The track “Afternoon (Unreleased Mix)” is a rare alternate version of a song originally included on “Brand New Day” released by Generations.
