Occasionally I've mentioned in stream chats and other places that I've been working on a Commodore 64 game since, well, 19-something. Unfortunately, I still don't have much to show for all that slow, slow, meticulous and slow work, but at least I can offer this little teaser: a couple of development screenshots that might not look like much at the moment but at least prove that I've been doing something.
That background scrolls, by the way. The text is a proportional font that's rendered in real-time. The boxes animate as they appear, growing from their centers until reaching the desired size. There's a screen transition effect, too, that I think turned out pretty awesome... And every single one of these things were much, much trickier to program than they sound!
By the way, I'm crediting hexadoodle for those shapes (they're level data) and that background design. Recognize them?
