i switched from spotify to tidal recently
and here are some things i wish people mentioned while i was researching different streaming platforms
- you can’t control whats playing on one device with another (ie. im playing a song on my phone, but i cant skip that same song by using tidal on my laptop) (i think you can with something called tidal connect but thats a whole other thing you also have to pay for)
- there is no listening history unless its part of the original playlist queue, which disappears after the playlist is finished or you play a new playlist (ok i was sorta wrong about this, there is a recently played on the homepage but you cant see order of songs played in a playlist)
- you cant listen to any songs with swear words in them unless you manually disable it in the settings ’,:/
- if you close the app while listening to a song, the song will start from the beginning when you reopen app
- in the search function, you cant clear individual searches — you either clear everything you searched and played, or nothing
- if you go to an artists page, there will be an indicator that youre following them or not, but not whether you have any of their songs in your liked tracks
- thats another thing: you’re liked songs playlist (if transferred from spotify) go to the Tracks folder (it took me so long to find it lmao)
- you can’t transfer playlists that you didnt create, so i had to duplicate a bunch of playlists just to do that
- once you finish listening to a playlist, instead of playing suggested songs based on the whole playlist, it will play songs similar to the last song you listened to on that playlist
- there is no ‘lyrics match’ function in the search bar. ive taken to searching up lyrics of songs i dont know on spotify, then playing those songs on tidal to see if its the right song
- a few songs simply dont exist on tidal when they do on spotify, but at least during the transfer process, it will let you know
- i definitely think the search function isnt as good as spotifys unfortunately
- layout wonky :(
- you cant swipe to next song unless you have the song full screen (if that makes sense??) (like it shows the song playing at bottom of screen on app, but you cant swipe to skip unless its clicked to full screen)
- the downloading of a playlist is kinda finicky ive found? like sometimes it works just fine and other times i have to keep tidal open and on the download queue or else it just wont?? not sure if thats a me problem or not
lets just say its taking some getting used to
