Snowing at the park yesterday, looking east from Black Rock Road

Cute birds hopping around near the spring in the snow. Before the drought those stones were under rapidly flowing water but now they’re stepping stones for birds.

If you don’t live in a place where it happens you don’t have a sense of how cold it has to be for running water to turn to crystal like this. It has to be much colder than it has to be to freeze standing water. Take hand warmers in your pockets if you’re taking images like this. One time I didn’t and found I couldn’t move the fingers on my right hand at all. I had to bend them with my other hand in order to get my right hand into my coat pocket. ❄️🥶

Cool lighting effect caused by ice and sunshine and the movement of the water. I like that moving line it causes on the lakebed.

A fox trotting across the lake on the ice, January a few years ago. The lake won’t be frozen today but who knows what wonders I’ll see.

What it looks like when a small herd of white-tailed deer is running away from you though the winter woods.

June at the park, breeze and komorebi

Late August in the garden 7 years ago, bumblebees at great blue lobelia

Late July in the woods another year. Wood thrush and wood peewees singing
