Changes

New newsletter, largely based on things we've already written about marketing to be an "in-between week" issue like https://newsletter.posthog.com/p/43-things-weve-learned-about-hiring

I'd appreciate feedback on:

  1. If there's points I should include that I'm not.
  2. If you disagree with any of the points I've made

Need to add some graphics :)

Two points about marketing at PostHog:

1. We’re a dev tool who markets mostly to software developers.
2. We care a lot about our brand, content, website, and launches. Other marketing channels, less so.

This intro felt a bit out of place. From the headline I was expecting something about marketing for devs, but this felt a bit out place. I think we need to open with something else. Also could we make it a bit more exciting?

Sorry I realize this isnt helpful feedback as it nots anchored in specifics. I'll give it some thought about what we can do for the intro

Left a suggestion to tweak this, but it works for me. This format is all about being direct, so it's best not to add to much stuff here.

this list has great advice but currently feels like a giant block of text that isnt easy to skim. Can we tweak the layout?

As this is a first draft, I expect illustrations / memes, etc will follow to break things up.

Some ideas you could add:

  • Something around how LLMs are influencing people based on our recent findings?
  • James wrote a lot of stuff sharing their journey in the early days, which proved to be good marketing. Could add a point around the value of this early-on. People like to hear it. Share what you think etc.
  • Never underestimate the value of being funny on the internet. (James' social)
  • Remember you're competing against cat videos.
  • Creating bad videos is easy. Creating great video is hard and takes time.
