The scope for this PR will be very big and so far there is still a lot of work to be done.
When I get things working, I might hold work with this PR and add some of the packages to nixpkgs instead.
Opened this PR earlier more to already show what is in progress and maybe inspire others to help bring some of the packages to nixpkgs.
