How to create or participate a study group.

To participate a group study, please check our group study page to see if there has been a group page and a group of people carrying on group studies in the topic you care about. If such a group page exists, there should be shared materials, links and approaches to join them on the corresponding page. Follow their instruction, you can then enjoy the interaction with that group of people for studying new knowledge.

If there is no existing study group on your target subject, and you want to create one among our community, you can easily create one using the template we have provided in the repository. Be sure to upload your page onto the gh-pages branch or tell our website developers about your attempt, our website developers will help you finish up all the other technical details. We encourage you to include a logo icon and a sensible name for your study group, and make a link to your page on our ICIQ main page. To main a good study group, we suggest you to include at least the following content in your group study page:

  • materials and target that the group or at least the leaders of the group want to go through or reach during the study period;
  • a tentative schedule that you decide the group should stick to;
  • at least one feasible communication method for the group, such as emaillist, Google+ community, Yahoo group, Skype, QQ or even Google Hangout.

To run an open study group online may not be an easy job, yet you will enjoy the pleasure of cracking challenges and learning from people. To fully extend the potential of a study group, you may also want to consider the following facts:

  • People may join you at random time. So, it is better to leave some records online so that they can catch up you.
  • Members in a study group may come with various levels, you may want to list additional materials to fit in their tastes.
  • Learning is an infinity loop. So, be prepared to go over some advanced learning materials after a round of study period, and leave some common wealth for people who want to run it for the second time.
  • There may have already been some open courses online. So, best use their resources and interact with people there.

If you just want to run a tentative group, and are not sure if people would like to join you, you can run a tentative group without a fixed schedule. In that case, do share some ideas and materials to let people know what the group is about and how can the group get started, as well as provide a contact information. We always welcome related study groups to find a home in our community, no matter who is going to lead it or how mature the organization format is. Just let our members know if you would like to run one, maybe people will spontaneously run the group and share some good ideas.
