Five years after The Dreaming I, this follow-up continues the terrifying and wondrous music of Naas Alcameth's nightmarish shadow realms, creating one of the most innovative and fascinating sounds in extreme metal. 'Ephialtes' is absolutely sensational, opening with incredible power, and building to one of the album's highlights starting at 1:31. 'Incubatio' is equally cataclysmic, with its dark ambient intro, followed by blistering blast beats, until the apocalyptic shriek at 2:51 — unreal!

Here's to some more cosmic metal, the Karlsruhe based outfit offers crude yet extremely well produced sound in this earlier effort. Featuring mid-tempo cadences, occasional blast beating, high pitched shrieking essentially, the riffing has this mildly meaty, sensational over-atmospheric tilt that's always well received on my part. The perspective of getting sucked into a wormhole had never felt better I kid you not. Emperor and Inherits the Void in mind, you just can't skip this one.

This latest release is especially fierce, a ferocious blend of black metal and industrial that has only grown on me. It may even surpass Melinoë, no easy feat. 'The Mask of Night-Speaking' builds to a cataclysmic crescendo, erupting into a fury of the blackest kind at 6:00, as if the entire track was meant for that one moment — a true Akhlys signature. 'Eye of the Daemon' is equally powerful, steeped in nightmare-inspired soundscapes, with 1:54 also showcasing the raw force of this dark art.
