I read a fringe theory once that sam himself was the reason RV brings him up in book 12 of the manga, after the whole fiasco he had a hand in (pun intended).
It’s more likely he just happened upon the news somehow (and the death of one particular character triggered him) but “normally passive and friendly ghost nerd has finally had Enough” is a troupe I can get on board with.
Everybody forgets about those short stories.
