I am utterly captivated by this video series that Taryn Delanie and friends have been making on TikTok
Rocket scientists who leave the rocket industry keep thinking everything is a rocket and it's kind of adorable
"We can honeycomb this to reduce the weight" sweetie no that's going to be twice as expensive to manufacture and we are not launching it anywhere.
"If we use titanium instead of steel we'll save a bunch of weight" baby you need to stop worrying so much about your weight! And maybe worry more about what happens to titanium when you expose it to deuterium plasma.
I can’t speak for other social media webbed sites but I really enjoy how tumblr seems to just completely spin a wheel on whatever media is hot right now. Like yeah sometimes it’s a new show that’s big and actively coming out but also sometimes there will be a solid month where half my dash is Columbo memes. Defy authority. Get really into an book from the 1800s. Watch shows that haven’t aired in 40 years. Celebrate the anniversary of the Boston Molasses Flood. Become unmarketable
Some of the categories for the NYT Connections fills me with hatred and wrath. What do you mean “dog breeds with the first letter changed” i’ll kill you
“This is how these words would be related if they were different words”
there's this phenomenon i've noticed on youtube which i dub "man math" which is when men STEM-ify hobbies/activities/art forms in order to make them more masculine. it's very noticeable in the cooking video sphere where there's an endless stream of videos made by men along the lines of "the SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN best way to cook an egg" (and dgmw, i watch them and find them helpful, but the observation stands), but i notice it also in the way men approach ceramics (a lot of focus on mold-making and slip-casting to perfection, basically reinventing one man mass-production rather than play and discovery), tailoring/sewing/knitting/textile art, gardening and other nature-oriented hobbies, interior decor, furniture making and woodworking, journaling/planning/productivity, even drawing and painting, there's always some man math angle to it that although interesting it often strikes me as some sort of overcompensation to move away from the inherent vulnerability that comes with art making and once you notice it it's literally everywhere

From the article:
“If you look only at the trend of species declines, it would be easy to think that we’re failing to protect biodiversity, but you would not be looking at the full picture,” said Penny Langhammer, lead author of the study and Executive Vice President of Re:wild. “What we show with this paper is that conservation is, in fact, working to halt and reverse biodiversity loss. It is clear that conservation must be prioritized and receive significant additional resources and political support globally, while we simultaneously address the systemic drivers of biodiversity loss, such as unsustainable consumption and production.”
This massive meta analysis (for those not familiar, a study analyzing the results of many studies on similar topics) found that the vast majority of conservation efforts show much much better results than doing nothing. In many cases, biodiversity loss was not only stopped but reversed.
This shows that conservation efforts really work and money invested is put to very good use. Legally protecting endangered species really works, restoring habitat really works, removing invasive species really works, returning land to Indigenous communities works. All of the blood, sweat, and tears being poured into protecting the natural world has been making a real, big, tangible, difference on a global scale.
The original The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is very clear that the headless horseman wasn’t supposed to look like it had a pumpkin for a head, Brom Bones used a pumpkin to make it look like the horseman was holding his actual decapitated head and threw it at Ichabod, and every artist over the past 205 years has gone “Holy shit a pumpkin head on a headless horseman fucking rocks” and they’re right
I love seeing a headless horseman with a pumpkin head. Did he carve that himself. Did he steal that from someone’s yard. Did he just go “Fuck it that’ll do” or does he even know it’s a pumpkin?
My interpretation of this when I was a kid was always that the horseman was so desperate for a head, any head, that he found a jack o lantern and felt its face and went “Two eyes a nose and a mouth yes it’s a head it’ll do until I find the right one” and nobody’s told him it’s a pumpkin yet
Yeah look the weird smut comments are totally out of pocket but I really can't get over "im more into dr.seus or self help books lol"
#do you think he's actually read dr. seuss or did he just hear "doctor" before an author's name and decide it sounded smart? (Via @shellys-apprentice)
Oh my god

It’s not her fault! Cats are really bad at object permanency.
I like when he shows her the toy at the beginning and she does a little hand gesture like “YEAHTHATs the shit I like!”
This is Messi! He’s a male puma from Russia!
He was bred in captivity and was afflicted with health problems and 30% smaller than average for a male puma. As a cub he was in a petting zoo, and due to his health issues, he was unable to be rehabilitated for wild release.
So this Russian couple adopted him. He goes to doggy obedience school. Walks on a leash, wears puma jammies on cold days. Lets his owners clip his claws. And is 100% living life as a house cat.
Messi is NOT domesticated. Messi is tame. He’s been around humans his entire life and has no reason to fear humans. Messi is an exception, not a rule.
He also has an Instagram and youtube accounts.
my corner store guy is a 50 year old man who's my best friend in the world and recently he was like "you're too pretty to be single I have some nephews you should meet. very handsome!" and I was like "a niece might be more up my alley" and he just got more excited and said "ah even better! I was overselling my nephews but my nieces are very beautiful"
