Can I follow if I am not a Christian?
Sure! I don’t like it when bigots and fascists follow me, but that’s about it.
Which branch of Christianity are you?
I was raised in the UCC church. The vast majority of my extended family is predominantly Catholic… so I have been influenced by Catholic culture my whole life. I have been attending Orthodox, Catholic, and Episcopal churches. I align myself with a lot of Orthodox theology and Catholicism culturally, however I am still technically protestant :(
What is a Mystic?
Broadly speaking, a mystic is someone who tries to reach full unity with God through the means of meditation, prayer, contemplation, and/or other mystical practices.
Christian Mysticism has been around for centuries. It’s nothing new. It most certainly didn’t begin with the New Age movement.
Do you believe in hell?
Yes. I closely relate to the theology of purgitorial universalism. I believe in a hell is a restorative state…not eternal and horrifically torturous. I believe everyone eventually comes to salvation.
I do not believe that people are “sent to hell” on the basis of their religious convictions or their sexuality, but rather on how they treat others.
Are you a witch?
No. I have studied witchcraft and the occult. I have even explored the idea in my early teens. I have friends on here who practice witchcraft. But no, I am most definitely not a witch. I do participate in folk practices.
Side A or side B?
A. I think LGBT people deserve an affirming theology. Straight/ and cis people shouldn’t be allowed to have a side B opinion. Honestly, cis/straight Christians shouldn’t ever speak over LGBT Christians…. ever.
How can you be a pro-choice Christian?
Because it doesn’t come in conflict with my faith. Here is my pro-choice tag.
Are you gay?
I am tentatively calling myself a lesbian. I typically tend to only have relations with women and have a complicated relationship with men (its the internalized heteronormativity)
Are you a religious leader?
No. I am discerning ministry and thinking about becoming a deacon. I am also considering professorship in a Relgious Studies context.
Are you baptized?
Yes.
Why the name hymnsofheresy? Are you a heretic?
Everyone is a heretic to somebody. I named myself that because I am absolutely fascinated by early Christian heresies. I will talk about them so much if you give me the opportunity.
How can I find a church that’s LGBT+ affirming?
I recommend looking at https://www.churchclarity.org/
