Scammy return policy. Sizing significantly off.

Awful customer service. Terrible sizing. Sub-par materials.
I bought 2 tops, shorts, pants and a dress.
The sizing on this company is horrendously off. Extremely long straps, not normal at all. The cream color is completely see though. Thin. Poor quality.
Everything I ordered had to be sent back, and they CHARGE FOR RETURNS. Even though I spent the $200 minimum for free shipping.
Long story short, I definitely lost money with this company.

My first venture in to “cleaning” up my athletic wear unfortunately went to this awful company. I spent $311 on four items (2 sports bras and 2 leggings), which are odd fitting (much larger than expected). I returned them for a refund which was unfortunately only refunded for $262. That is a big hit for clothing articles that you have no way to try on to find they are completely not fitted for your body. Very bad taste in the mouth and they will never regain my business and I will share my experience with everyone I know. Beware of this predatory business and spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

Avoid this business. Overpriced for poor quality and service.

Will never do business with this company again. Poor customer experience. Good luck getting in touch with anyone. There is no phone number and emails get ignored. Quality does not match the price and you will lose money on returns. Their return policy is not clearly stated on their site. Be wary or better yet just avoid.

shitty return policy to EU

The products arrived in good condition and overall I’m happy with them, except that the shorts are quite see-through and the top is extremely revealing, so I wanted to return the top. I live in the Netherlands and contacted customer service for help, but communication was very unclear regarding returns from abroad. It seems I’ll have to pay extra shipping costs, and after my follow-up email they simply stopped replying for days. Now I’ll probably miss the return window altogether. If you live in Europe, I would not recommend ordering here – the return process is complicated, unclear, and expensive.

Some difficulties but they ultimately resolved the issue

Ordered 3 tee shirts. 2 are fine. The material is soft but the stitching is a bit sloppy. Nevertheless, the shirts fit as described and feels good.

One of the shirts had very poor stitching to the degree that it puckered in the neckline. The return process required that I send a picture to show the damage. It took them a week to get back to me which I think is not great from a customer service standpoint but I was pleased with their solution. They told me I could just keep the defective shirt and they would send me a new one as a replacement. So now I have a new sleep t-shirt and a replacement is on the way.

Only good at marketing...

Overall this company seems to succeed on good advertising only. The product is poorly made even if it's organic cotton. The bra I ordered was not sized properly. It made me feel that all reviews I read on their website were fake.

Return shipping was going to cost me $10 until I complained and they did refund that shipping cost to me in the end.

They charge $10 to Return items that don't fit.

I ordered based on their sizing chart, but the sports bra was massive and clearly not designed for real fitness use. The material is thick, bulky, and offers zero support. Although they claim to compete with actual performance gear, their products fit poorly and feel more like overpriced loungewear. On top of that, I lost $10 just trying to return it—thanks to inflated return shipping fees—and they tack on a non-optional $5 “insurance” or “ethical” fee at checkout. In the end, I paid $15 just to return a bra that’s poorly made and only fits if your bust and rib cage are the same size. Rather than offer honest customer service, they rely on discount incentives to discourage returns. Save yourself the trouble and stick with Pact—it’s more affordable, actually fits, and their customer service won’t nickel-and-dime you. This brand is all marketing, no substance. Also-they claim they have to 'approve' a return - so who knows if I'll actually get my money back from this company once the package is in the mail.

Total Disappointment

This is the letter I wrote to them describing my experience. They never wrote back and did not address my concerns. Judge for yourself:

Dear Mate The Label Care Team,

I am writing regarding orders #405536 and #407470. I am extremely disappointed and feel that I have been taken advantage of by your company.

My intention was to purchase the blue sweatshirt and sweatpants as a birthday gift for my fiancée, with the clear need for them to arrive by May 1st. I placed the first order (#405536) on Friday, April 18, using a coupon you had provided for signing up for promotional emails. I believed I was ordering both the pants and the sweatshirt. To my surprise, only the pants were included in the package.

To complete the gift, I placed a second order (#407470) on Sunday, April 27, and paid extra for three-day shipping. I was frustrated that I could not apply the same coupon a second time. Had your ordering process been clearer, I would have used the coupon on the full purchase and qualified for free shipping, since the total would have exceeded $200.

Despite paying for expedited shipping, the second package did not arrive until six days after the order was placed—too late for the birthday.

On top of the delay, the sweatshirt is too small. Furthermore, under natural light, the color of the sweatshirt does not match the sweatpants. The dye is visibly different.

In the end, I paid $281 for items that arrived late, did not match in size or color, and failed to meet basic expectations. Comparable products from other retailers cost significantly less, include free shipping, and have a far simpler return process.

Your return process, by contrast, is unnecessarily complicated. There is no intuitive way to access the return portal from your main website—I had to search for it separately. I was also unable to generate a single return label for both orders, which made the process even more cumbersome. To add insult to injury, I was charged $9.00 per return label, for a total of $18.00 in return fees.

This order should have cost approximately $220 with the discount you offered. Instead, I paid $281 for items that arrived late, did not fit, did not match, and cost me an additional $18 to return.

I would like all $281 back. You guys should pay for the return shipping, not me.

Order never received and not able to get a resolution

I placed an order more than a month ago and still had not received my package which I paid in full and also for a 3 day delivery. The clothes are very pricey for such poor costumer service there is not even a contact number for you to call and the costumer service takes days to give you no resolution at all. I would not recommend this website

Bad value, cannot return

The clothes simply do not fit well at all. I tried the sports bras, had to order multiple sizes and none worked. The dress I ordered was on sale and could not be returned though this was not stated when I ordered - I never order anything that cannot be returned. The tees were OK , I can regift them to my kids. Everything is very expensive, not a good value based on what I received.

The WORST part of this whole thing is that it costs you to return and they do not make it easy. It is simply too risky to ever order from this company again. And I did not get a single item I can use. Super frustrating because I probably wasted a few hundred dollars if my daughters cannot use the items.

Seems ripping apart on multiple products after minimal use

I’ve been transitioning to as much organic clothing as possible and was so excited to find their leggings. I’ve ordered two pairs in the last 2-3 months including during their Christmas sales. The leggings are adorable and so comfortable— I was thrilled when they arrived. And now after not much use in a short period of time, both of them have seems splitting out in the calf and thigh area— so can’t be worn any more. $80 for leggings that only lasted 2 months max is a huge disappointment. At least other big brands, although not organic, last years at this price point.

AWFUL!

AWFUL!
Do NOT waste your time. The clothes are, OK. Nothing great. There are plenty of better quality clothing manufacturers out there. The clothes from MATE are average but it’s the customer service that’s the WORST. Replies are slow and unhelpful. I ordered something weeks ago. I received an invoice saying I owed over $100, even though this was an exchange. The email literally was an invoice for $108. I complained and then they said it’s just the way it’s worded and I didn’t owe anything. That makes no sense. I waited for my items to be shipped, heard nothing, had to write, they told me one was out of stock and I’d be refunded. Then magically I got an email within 48 hours to say both were shipped which was odd. I wait…and wait…and WAIT. Nothing. I look at the tracking info and it says nothing has left the shippers in California because they haven’t received my items to send. I write to MATE and ask what’s going on. They flat out tell me they haven’t shipped! So I ask why they sent me a tracking number to say it had??? Then I magically get an email to say it’s shipped (again). I look at the tracking info and it’s the EXACT same info (“pending package”). The items have not been given to the shippers! I’ve asked questions and complained. I get fobbed off and it takes days for them to reply. When they do replies it’s excuses and lies. I will never buy from them again. There’s so many other companies doing the exact same type of clothes that are better quality and with great customer service. At this point, I’d honestly rather a bigger carbon footprint on my chosen purchases by shopping elsewhere just to not have to deal with the stress from MATE. I buy a lot of clothes in general - trust me, this company is not good and the clothes are not great. Shop elsewhere.

Flimsy products not for LG busted women

I do not like the products I bought. I am a large busted woman. I bought 2 bra-letts, XL, there is like 5" of fabric in width, and it is VERY thin. the elastic underneath is weak. This is no support whatsoever. The underwear do not have enough elastic support around the butt-checks so they ride up, also very thin material. the socks were good. When i wrote a review on their website, they didn't post it. When I asked why they didn't post my review, they ghosted me. I had given them 2 stars then, but lack of customer service and refusing to post a review is BAD service in addition to these particular BAD products. I would not buy from them again given this experience.

GREAT COMPANY AND CLOTHING

I’ve ordered from Mate twice, and both packages arrived quickly. Their clothing is more pricey than some of the other organic/sustainable brands, but it reflects the quality of their pieces. I have the classic t-shirt, tank top, and zippered hoodie. The shirts are 100% organic cotton and so soft. I ordered them in my usual size small and also 2 and 3x, which I use as sleep shirts. They are so comfortable and I will only buy tees from this brand moving forward.

On my second order, there was a glitch on their site, which incorrectly showed a sold out item as being available. They notified and refunded me promptly. For this error, I was offered a 20% off coupon. Mate is an honest company that provides high quality apparel and great customer service. I am currently having to deal with a dishonest company (please see my review for the Groceries apparel). Mate the Label has been wonderful, and I will continue to purchase from them in the future.

Edit 9:15 - great customer service, and they want to make things more than right and a desire to improve overall. Will update if things change.

I initially thought I liked Mate the Label’s Original Tee, but after multiple experiences with the company, I’m left with a sour taste. Their return policy is one of the most frustrating aspects—only offering store credit or exchange without making this clear at checkout.

Additionally, their marketing can feel deceptive. For example, the Trashie Take Back Bag, which I initially thought was a great sustainability effort, is advertised as providing a “credit.” However, it’s really just a coupon with restrictions, like not being usable on sale or bundled items. When you hear "credit," you expect something saved to your profile, like a gift card, not a limited-use coupon.

To make things worse, I’ve noticed that negative reviews, even verified ones, are not posted. It feels like the company is intentionally hiding feedback that doesn't align with their image. I’d recommend looking up reviews on Reddit or other platforms since clearly their website cannot be trusted for an honest overview.

Overall, while the product might be decent, the lack of transparency and misleading policies have left me extremely disappointed. I will not be shopping here again in the future.

I don’t know how they are in business

I am beyond frustrated. I have no idea how they are in business. I have tried to reach out 4 times now and no response. I bought linen pants (said 100% organic linen) got them and they are 100% cotton. They were on sale so couldn’t return them. Ive never bought something from anywhere that they could mislabel under the material category. Then I put on the leggings I bought and my dog jumped on my lap (does it all the time with cheap and expensive leggings on and nothing has ever happened) when I get up I noticed two big holes. I couldn’t believe I paid over $200 for pants and I got to wear one pair for a few hours. I am blown away how a company can be this unethical and get way with it. I’m out $200 but I hope this saves someone else from making the same mistake. I should have read reviews on the company first. Lesson learned.

Don't Shop Here Till Problem is Fixed

There has been a "glitch" in their fulfillment system not once, but twice. This time I was told that they would give me a 20% of discount, which is lovely, except that means I am paying $70 out of pocket for my order. This also means I will possibly be waiting months to have the item restocked, as that is the norm for the site. Their response when I said I needed an update on how this would be fixed, as this is a recurring issue, was I understand you are disappointed. It doesn't seem that you do. You are making a customer pay for YOUR direct mistake in your system with no follow-up on when the problem will be fixed and the product restocked. Thanks, Angela. Customer service 101. Very disappointed in every aspect of the relationship.
