See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Never mind reconciling Ed and Lucius - they didn’t really need it - I wanted to see the connection between Stede and Lucius more in Season 2. They had been so close and developed such support of each other and I wish more time had been spent on repairing that relationship.

(And this is neither a “Season 2 sucks!” post nor a “HBO took this from us!” post. I think the bigger problem is that the writers were so desperate to rehabilitate Izzy, and failed at it, they did it to the detriment of other characters and relationships.)

If they were going to insist on the docking joke it should have been Lucius to deliver it 😒

I have weird feelings around the docking joke because I do think it makes sense for Izzy to say it, but not for the reason that I think the show really intends it. The whole thing: ripping aside the curtain, Stede and Ed's reactions, how it interrupts an important relationship conversation that has a later impact on the plot, the tastelessness of the joke itself, etc. - it's all very in keeping with Izzy's invasion of their space and their relationship, and his own views of what being a Real Man means (he's indirectly praising Stede's masculinity in topping Ed). I don't think this is the intended reading of that scene at all, but that's how I see it.

Lucius would have given a totally different valence to the scene, which I think would have worked as well (just differently).

If Lucius had been the one to make the docking joke, the broader joke would be that Lucius keeps walking in on people because he of all people doesn’t know what a sock on the door means.

But I absolutely see the through-line you identify, too.
