Returning in what is planned to be a big year for Jenson Interceptor, aka Australian Mikey Melas, 2024’s Thermaic Rise is given a remix treatment by a global strikeforce of Hassan Abou Alam, JLZ, NOMMO, and estoc.
Melas has never been one to remain static, and 2024 found him going through an artistic metamorphosis of sorts, as he moved away from the arpeggiated electro style he'd pioneered in the late-2010s towards styles and genres he'd found captivating when DJing across the globe.
2024's Jensen & Friends compilation was the first stage of this change, as he worked with artists he'd met, letting his collaborators take the lead and resulting in a compilation that traversed the musical spectrum.
Later, the Thermaic Rise EP showed Jensen Interceptor returning to his Greek roots whilst also experimenting with these new influences; the past and future combining in the present to produce a document of artistic transformation in progress.
Ahead of the final stage of this progression, in the form of his second full-length record, Jenson Interceptor opens 2025 by revisiting Thermaic Rise, inviting four artists to disassemble and remake each of the tracks.
From Greece's Mediterranean neighbour, Egypt all the way to South America, the remixers take inspiration from their own backyards to add local rhythms and sensibilities.
Hailing from Brasil NOMMO is a collaboration between 'Evehive' & 'Kontronatura' both incredibly talented, of the moment producers in their own rite, so this pairing is a deadly one, you've been warned! Brazilian funk techno futurism in full display.
One of the International Chrome All-Stars, JLZ is another prolific titan rhythm from Brazil. His remix evokes sonic deconstruction on a nuclear level, taking Brazilian funk beyond tomorrow.
estoc is a creative, chameleon genius: no tempo, texture or genre is out of her reach. Her remix of Thermaic Rise is a testament to those abilities, as she has flipped the B.P.M. and reinvented this into a new warehouse weapon.
Hassan Abou Alam is fast becoming a household name in the broken bass dance realm, his remix displays his sophisticated teasing with distortion paired, finding the beauty within minimal elements.
Together the two versions of Thermaic Rise demonstrate that staying true to your roots whilst also being open to the perspectives of others is a worthy path.
