Hopefully things are going well with you all! Today I figured I’d show off a bit of what I’ve been working on :) It’s all themed around the ‘environment’ interest, which as mentioned in a previous post, is the first interest I’ll be entirely working on ;)
Iβm going to start now with a warning. Please donβt expect the same level of legacy style gameplay as one of the mainline sims games. The Sims medieval is an RPG and so the gameplay wonβt work the same. That being said, with mods and some tweaking, you can get a level of legacy gameplay. But PLEASE DONT EXPECT MIRACLES
This guide is going to be split into sections. These sections will touch upon different aspects of a legacy such as aging, the mods needed, starting the legacy and having different playable sims. Also, please note that I am unsure of how the game will act as generations pass. It could get game breaking at some point, I havenβt made it past 6 generations yet so I am unsure how the game will act at 10+ gens.Β
This mod is similar to nraas or mccc for sims 3 and 4. Secondly, you have to enable testingcheats. This can be done by doing the following;
1. locating the commands.ini file in the games installation folder (OS/program filesx86/origin games/the sims medieval/game/bin)
2. Opening the file and changing the zero in βtestingcheatsenabled = 0β to a 1
3. Saving the file
The game should NOT be open when doing this. Iβd also recommend setting up a plumtree account so you can keep track of a family tree since the game does not have one. This website can be found here: https://www.theplumtreeapp.com/ . So now thatβs sorted, letβs jump into the guide!Β
Getting started:
This now depends on preference. You can either play through the quests and begin your legacy that way or cheat to unlock the free play and the other professions immediately. The cheat to unlock free play immediately is βShowAllQuestsβ. Personally, I would play through the quests.Β
So now make your legacy founder! If you want to make your founder a monarch then itβs the same usual process.Β
However, If you want to start with a different profession such as a merchant hereβs how you can do that! Firstly, you have to make a monarch (if you donβt want to then just use a premade one). A monarch is needed for the game to be playable. Next, youβll want to use the cheat βsetKingdomPoints 30β to give yourself enough resource points to add another building. Then you can add the building and make your founder!
After making your founder, you can start playing as you would!
Playable Sims:
If you want to be able to play the entire family as you would in the mainline sims games, using the grims core mod DEBUG sim options you are able to unlock an option βmake hero sim selectable.β This will make them selectable at the side for you to control them.
Aging:Β
Aging isnβt a thing in the sims medieval so we have to simulate it ourselves. Using the grims core mod, youβre able to take your sim into cas. From here you can manually age your sims using the age detail slider and the highlights to add greys in. I keep track of ages using the week counter when you hover over the time and counting the ages in weeks (eg a sim is a YA for 10 sim weeks) you can keep track anyway you want though.Β
There is no way for toddlers to exist in this game, Iβve looked into modding them in. The game just doesnβt support it. So babies will age immediately into children. You can take children into cas using the grim core mod DEBUG sim options.Β
Teens: Aging children can be simply done once again using the grim core mod to age them into an teen/adult. Teens donβt exist in the sims medieval so I instead do a small bit of modding and simply pretend. Using a height slider (The cmar height slider for sims 3 works fine, you can find it here: https://modthesims.info/d/508972/sim-height-slider.html ), I make the adults the children age into shorter. I then simply make their clothes something dirtier and make their faces younger looking (making the eyes slightly bigger and pulling the jaw up are the main things.)
Now! Itβs time for your heir to become the next main sim. The handover can be tricky. So, your now teen/adult heir is ready. What you want to do is click on your current main sim and select βRetire from Profession.β This will cause no one to be in the role of the current profession.
Next you want to go to the heir youβve chosen and choose Set Profession on Sim, then choose the profession they are going to be taking. (If theyβre a child you can just click age and set profession)Β
Now, what you want to do is back out of the current quest (going into kingdom mode and quitting it, this is the same for freeplay.) This is to make sure the transfer has gone smoothly. If your profession is left empty, THIS IS OKAY! Simply save AS under a new save and exit to the main menu, then reopen the save. If the profession is filled by your heir then youβre good to keep playing! I recommend doing the transfer during freeplay so there isnβt any quest youβd accidently not complete.
And that should be the transfer done! Then the process simply repeats each generation. This process also works if you want the children to take up a different profession to one of their parents. Just donβt have the parent retire and make sure the role you want them to fulfil is empty and select that instead.
Death:
Death is something that unfortunately wonβt happen naturally. When you feel it is your sims time to pass on you can go about it in a pretty simple way. Enable the sim DEBUG options as your familiar with. Click on the sim you wish to pass on and select βDEBUG: Die by.β You can then select one of the 5 options (For old age, I pick rabbithole.) The sim will then pass on.Β
There arenβt any gravestones in the game which sucks but you can improvise with some small memorial flowers in remembrance if you wish.Β
Build mode:
I thought I would touch on this. There is no build mode in The Sims Medieval. Only a buy mode. SO, I would suggest planning on how youβre going to use the space for your family early on because it can become very overwhelming very quickly, especially with 6+ kids.
Wrap Up:
I hope this guide helped! And I hope simmers everywhere are able to take this guide and run with it and turn it into something better. This was just me sharing how I play the game.Β
Do you want to make the game more comfortable?Β Remove lags, speed up loading, and improve stability? Youβve come to the right place!
Β This can be achieved through built-in settings (such as reducing graphics and disabling unnecessary effects) and third-party mods that fix engine issues. Simply follow the steps below.Β
You lovingly created beautiful characters, upgraded their skills, you have a huge dynasty with a bunch of children, and moving on to a new goal you need to start all over again.β¦ It doesn't matter, you can always continue playing with the same save by simply transferring it from one target to another!
1) First, make sure to make a backup copy of your save to a separate file if something goes wrong (Save as⦠\Save name_1)
2) Go to the main menu and start a new goal that you like. Just remember the number of task scores, for example, I have 60:
3) Write any name of the kingdom and choose any throne room - it doesn't matter, it will then be overwritten by ours.
4) Save the new kingdom with a clear name so that it can be easily found in the folder and exit the game.
5) Go to: Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval\Saves and find your old save to transfer:
6) Inside the folder, find the WorldCastle file, copy and replace it to the folder with the new kingdom:
7) Log into the game in your new save and see that your kingdom is now in it. The only thing we don't like is that the task scores don't match, we just won't be able to achieve:
8) With the TestingCheats code activated, enter the SetQP 60 codes into the console. (Or your score value, which you need) and the task scores will be exactly the same.
9) If a new ambition requires resetting the kingdom's scores or safety/culture scores, etc., use the Medieval life mod - Command Center - to reset the kingdom's progress.
π
I started the game, but nothing happens, it hangs in the background process and thatβs it
There are two solutions here:
β
1. Launch the game through the launcher
Forget about the launcher, it doesnβt work. Launch the game via βTSM.exeβ from the root βBinβ folder, or better yet, make yourself a shortcut right away.
β
2.You installed a script mod, forgetting to install the d3dx9_3 file in the root folder. In this case, the game will not start either.
Error 2:
π
My Sims canβt get out of the castle and enter it!
Decision:
The error occurs during construction. The small picture and the hearth and the carpet may be to blame, which cause a routing failure. Remove all the items you bought during the last construction.
β
Tip: if you are planning a large construction site, periodically go into life mode, check the routing and save.
Error 3:
π
A sign comes out that the game does not recognize the video card,Β graphical glitches or crashes when changing the βReflection Qualityβ slider.
π
I canβt marry my Sims! They are always yelling that something is bothering them!
The technology of marriage is as follows: the two main sims go to get married where you said, at this moment the guest summoning script is triggered, the characters are standing and waiting for guests. Guests may want to go exactly where your Sims are getting married, thereby interfering with the wedding and causing the route to fail.
Decision:
β
Get married in large rooms like churches or a throne room, where there is enough space to accommodate 2 Sims + a priest + 5-7 guests.
Error 6:
π
Problems with saving. Error 12, saving is being deleted
Decision:
β
You need to optimize the game andΒ save the game via βSave Asβ, keep 2-3 saves in the folder.
Download the file βld_TS3Patch10.zipβ, place 3 files in the root folder βInstallation path of the game:\The Sims Medieval\Game\Binβ, !!except for the βPackagesβ folder - itβs for Sims 3.
To configure, open the file TS3Patch.txt:
TPS = 500,Β if you have a good computer - set 1000.
FPS limit = 60 or less, I usually have 30 for Sims and thatβs enough.
Borderless = 1 if you want a borderless mode
2)Increase the memory size for loading textures
In the root Bin folder, open GraphicsRules. There are lines at the very top of the list:
Write down your number instead of 32.To find out, click βWin+ Rβ and type βdxdiagβ in the window that opens.Β
Here will be your value, which you need to change to 32.
In the root Bin folder, open GraphicsRules. Find the lines:
endif
seti cpuLevelUber 4
seti cpuLevelHigh 3
seti cpuLevelMedium 2
seti cpuLevelLow 1
And replace the values with 3. It should work:
endif
seti cpuLevelUber 4
seti cpuLevelHigh 3
seti cpuLevelMedium 3
seti cpuLevelLow 3
Save and close the file.
4) If you have a modern next-generation processor, then you will also need the Intel Alder Lake Patch.
The symptoms that you need it are that the game crashes when you enter the castle, at startup, in the menu, or after a very short period from the start of the game.
Unzip the tool anywhere, then run the file βAlderLakePatch.exeβ. You will be prompted to find the file you want to fix. In the case of The Sims Medieval β βTSM.exeβ.
5) Clear cache files on time
Cache files store information about everything that happened in the game. They are needed to load the game faster. But they tend to overflow and slow down the game. Mods and default replacements will not work correctly if you install them without clearing the cache. Therefore, clean it in a timely manner.
If you frequently install and remove add-ons.materials, then you also need to delete files in the βThumbnailsβ folder.
π
The game is very dark, nothing is visible at all
Decision:
β Running in windowed mode solves this problem.
Error 8:
π The elusive NPCs. It is not possible to highlight them with a marker, they are missing all the time.
Decision:
β If this happens, you need to try to call them to the site using an invitation through the mailbox. It may not work out the first time, they may refuse, referring to the fact that they are busy. You need to try it several times at intervals.
β
In the case of an advisor, it can be called more easily. Sit on the throne and the βSummon an Advisorβ action will appear on your character.
A recent post on reddit made me think that behind a bunch of updates, people don't understand at all what kind of mod it is and what it adds. In this post I will add a description of all the features from the updates and links to the latest versions π
Adult module:
It contains 6 sex interactions, both single and joint. There are several randomly selected animations for each of them. Animations are based on the gender of the instigator of the action. For same-sex relationships, you will be asked to choose who will be in charge. There is an age check, reactions to public actions. If you do this in a public place and too many onlookers gather, you may be put in the stocks. Action is maximizes communication, fun and removes the "not enough romance" buff. Unavailable in bad relationships and in a bad mood.
Brothel in the Village. In a brothel, you will be offered a choice of a woman or a man (random sims of the kingdom will be appointed as employees), pregnancy may occur if the employee is a woman and your hero is a man. The same thing is the other way around. The service is not free. Maximizes communication, fun and removes the "not enough romance" buff.
Actions βundressβ and βget dressedβ.
The actions βDance for meβ and βDance naked for meβ. These actions are available only to the monarch and are trouble-free. They use the usual in-game animations. They increase the fun.
Steal interaction available if your Sim has less than 1000 Simols left in his pocket. It is also always available with certain character traits like greed. You can steal almost anything, theft can be unsuccessful if there are a lot of people nearby. You may also be caught stealing and sent to the stocks.
Pee interaction available for drunkurds and unkempts. If you try to do this inside the building on the floor, the sim will be outraged that you need to go outside. Only drunken Sims won't be outraged - they don't care
Ask about virginity - not the most decent question that many can reject.
DEBUG MODULE:
"Reset the world" and "Reset the Lot" actions
Edit Town mode (experimental). Many functions are not working yet, but it opens up various convenient construction opportunities on the lots themselves.
Book Info - Available for books lying on the floor or in the inventory. You can find out the full title of the book and the author.
"Go to lot" and "Go to lot with" - actions to go to a certain lot, including those that are not in the general plan of the kingdom, such as a mill or a lighthouse.
Pose player - allows you to use poses and animations. You will have to use them the old way: manually writing down the names of the poses in the list. But as soon as you save the game, your list will also be saved for each save, so you don't need to type them in every time.
Change gender prefer - allows you to change the preferences of your Sims. Preferences affects the autonomy of a romantic relationship. (Sometimes you need to click on the preferred gender several times.)
Rename the kingdom - The action is available only for the monarch.
Build on the lot⦠- allow you to change the lots (change windows, doors, arches, plants, use cc)
Build on a lot - the action directly opens the build mode on the lot you specified, without searching in the list.
Sell everything on the lot - an action in which everything that can be sold with one click.
Bulldoze the lot - this function is intended more for me than for you. I use it to explore the functions of the game, after which the world can break down. Use it only for testing
Information about the lot - displays basic information - Name, cost, size, themes for inspiration of the bard, how many deaths there were on the lot, when the lot was last edited, whether it is a wedding lot and whether this lot is available for invitations.
Reset Kingdom Progress - This feature resets all 4 kingdom stats and influence points. For those who play with downloaded kingdoms.
Time change - enter the number that will be added to the current number of hours.
Change of day - enter the number that will be added to the current number of days.
Week change - enter the number that will be added to the current number of weeks.
Weather Change - allows you to choose between 5 default weather types. The "Fantasy" weather has different shades for different lighting creators. Experiment to create a unique atmosphere of the kingdom! (Post about weather)
Become a ghost - allows you to turn into a ghost of one of 6 types. In this guise, Sims are immortal and their needs no longer fall. It is also available to children.
Become a Reaper - allows you to turn into a Reaper. In this guise, Sims are immortal and their needs no longer fall. It is also available to children. (About Reapers)
Become an Elf - turns Sims into elves. This is more of an external change, but also the skills of herbalism and geology are being added to the elves. (About elves, now not a blond)
Charm journal - Shows statistics of charming actions, like in The Sims 3. The mechanics themselves are interesting, but they donβt affect anything. For your personal interest or roleplaying something.
Skills journal - Shows information about the level of all hidden skills that a Sim can obtain or has received (not to be confused with professions).
Change profession - Yes, this exists in other mods, but it was my implementation that was important to me. I removed this option for children so as not to break the game, added localization and a message about changing professions.
My Zodiac Sign - Displays the current zodiac sign of the active Sim. Only for the current Sim, you can see the zodiac signs of other Sims only through a question.
Change zodiac sign - Allows you to change the zodiac sign for any Sim at any time in the game.
Add to family/remove from family - Itβs like the Change selectable action in grims mod, but with my edits. Differs: the presence of localization and the possibility of translation. This is an instant action, and does not queue up like in the original. Each added sim goes to the top of the list (I find this more convenient, if you find it less convenient, this is just the function in the Grims mod for you)
Edit in CAS - An instant function, which ultimately does not break religions as in the original, always immediately updates the preview after changes and displays a reminder warning for children. Like a forest witch, but without a witch, instantly.
Object Cloning (Debug Module) - a feature available on objects that instantly creates a copy of an object near the original (to avoid mistakes, I made this feature unavailable to Sims, land, and buildings)
Object reset (Debug Module) is a feature that I got from the developerβs code. A way to quickly reset a piece object.
Reset the texture of the object (Debug module) - helps if the texture of the object has become solid. It doesnβt help with the Simsβ clothing issues. But it helps for objects from the purchase and construction mode.
Add an object to the family inventory (Debug Module) - The function instantly moves an unused object to the luggage of the family. It will not appear if the object is in use (inaccessible to Sims, land, and buildings)
Teleport here (Debug Module) is a feature from the developersβ code that is constantly available. Available for both adults and children.
There is a feature to disable the tutorial at the beginning of the game, which prevents you from saving the game. To do this, click on the floor - command center - disable tutorial. The feature appears only if the tutorial is enabled. (The downside is that youβll have to start with the first steps anyway. But if you want, you can turn it off without going through and start a new kingdom)
Choose the time of the yearβ¦ No, it doesnβt bring full seasons to the game. Itβs just a shallow imitation that changes the dialog options in the Chatter. There are 5 random topics for conversation for each season (Discussing summer, complaining about the heat, talking about flowers, etc.). I donβt know if one day Iβll be able to relate this to something bigger like changing default substitutions, but I like to think that there really are seasons in my game.
From now on, when downloading the world, VideoMaker mode will automatically turn on, which allows you to turn on the free TAB camera at any time.
Methods have also been added to the βCheatsβ subsection, where you can choose whether VideoMaker, MoveObjects and BuyDebug will be activated automatically at the beginning of the game. By default, MoveObjects and BuyDebug are disabled.
Added a method that is available during pregnancy or during a pregnant gait (Pregnancy Command Center - Clear pregnancy data), which is designed to combat the gait that freezes after pregnancy if the sim has already given birth.
FOREST WITCH MODULE:
Adds a mysterious witch to the forest who curses or enchants for money. The success of the magic will depend on how much you are willing to pay. If you pay too little, the witch may get angry at you and do the opposite. Its capabilities:
Make me fit, thin, fat - instantly changes the shape of the sim.
Make me beauty - opens a complete change of the sim in the CAS.
Make me parent - Sim will get pregnant instantly.
Make me happy - all needs are instantly increased.
Curses (deadly, energy, hungry) - instantly punishes whoever you point at.
Buy amulet - The amulet in the inventory helps to protect against curses. It is recommended if you have enemies.
Enchants - allows you to do something good to someone else (make friends, cheer up, improve needs)
Make In love - Instantly make the chosen Sim fall in love with you.
Collect forest apples - Mini-event to diversify gameplay
Collect honey - Mini-event to diversify gameplay
LIGHTING MODULE:
Why do we need actions related to light, if they are already in the game? Those that are already in the game work clumsily. You set up beautiful lighting in the castle, re-enter the game and everything resets. I've also added some actions from Sims 3 that aren't originally in this game:
Turn on\off
Set intensity
Auto lights
Set Color
Toggle on\off
PREGNANCY MODULE:
Abort interaction - the action is available from the doctor from the moment a woman first learns about pregnancy and up to the 3rd trimester. Abortion with some chance can be traumatic and with a minimal chance can even lead to death (because medieval medicine is not very good). The action is paid.
Miscarriage - Miscarriage can happen autonomously with some chance if your pregnant woman is very hungry, energy is at zero or she is severely injured.
Am I pregnant? - The action is always available from the doctor. If the sim is pregnant, but does not know about it yet, then the doctor will inform him about it and the corresponding pregnancy buff will appear. The action is paid.
Who is Daddy? - The action is available to pregnant women from the wizard. If you don't know who the father is, for example, a stormy night in a brothel, then he will conjure up and tell you who it is.
Ask about pregnancy - just a topic for conversation, available only if the person you are talking to is pregnant. Whether the other person will answer you depends on the closeness of the relationship.
Announce Pregnancy - available for pregnant women as soon as she finds out about it. The answer will vary greatly depending on who you tell about it and the nature of the interlocutor. If you are in a romantic relationship, then Sim will first think about whether he can be a child and may be offended if this is not the case.
Complain of morning sickness - just the act of communication. If the interlocutor is a doctor, then he can help with your problem.
Admire the newborn - a friendly action available to young parents.
Congratulate on the birth of a child - a friendly action, available if the interlocutor has a newborn.
4 new interactions with baby: Admire the child, Silly Face, Tell a fairy tale, Talk to the child. They increase fun, communication and you can get a buff from communicating with a baby.
VILLAGE MODULE:
Go to barber - opens up the same opportunity to change your appearance as a mirror, but..for the money :D
Go to tailor - it opens up the same opportunity to choose clothes as the closet, but for money and with compliments. You will also get good buffs.
Wandering aimlessly - A small text quest in the village with different outcomes.
SOCIAL MODULE:
Ask full name - You can find out the full name and surname, which are usually not used anywhere except CAS.
Tell joke - random jokes about medieval life.
Give advice - random tips, both useful for the game, and just joking.
Ask about children - the opportunity to find out if the interlocutor has children and how many of them. Depending on the nature and relationship, the answer may be different.
Ask about siblings - the opportunity to find out if the interlocutor has siblings and how many of them. Depending on the nature and relationship, the answer may be different.
Ask about parents - the opportunity to find out if the interlocutor has parents. The answer will depend on the character (the orphan or the parents were eaten by a whale)
Ask gender preference - the opportunity to find out who the interlocutor prefers.
Ask about money - not the most decent question and not the fact that you will be answered. But it helps to choose the right partner for marriage.
Ask for a blessing for marriage - The action is available only if the Sim has parents. The answer will vary depending on the profession, the amount of money and the relationship.
Ask about the zodiac - show target zodiac
How old are you? - fake age of sims
And a small piece of information about mod:
All social actions and questions raise or lower the relationship. They replenish communication. They have speech bubbles. They are all differentiated by age.
All versions of the mod, including the very first ones, are still available for download, but you can always find all the latest versions in this post.
Do not install the combined mod at the same time as the modules - the game will crash due to a conflict.
If you are playing with modules, you must install the main module!!!
πΌοΈ Creating Objects and Characters for The Sims 2 β David Patchβs Portfolio
David Patch, the art director of The Sims 2, posted samples of his work on his page, showcasing the creation of objects, characters, and promotional banners for The Sims 2 and its expansion packs. The artistβs own commentary is included.
This image demonstrates a new aspect of aging in The Sims 2. I used developer scripts to extract the characters from the game assets. The poses, lighting, and rendering were done in Maya. I later turned to Photoshop to add the logo, shadows, and the babyβs burp.
This illustration served as the background for a flyer at the E3. At the same time, it reflects my personal vision of the game.

🕯️ How I Make The Sims 3 Feel Cozy Like The Sims 2
A Siren’s Resource 🐚✨
There’s something about The Sims 2 that feels warm, intimate, and lived-in. Smaller neighborhoods. Slower routines. Family dinners that actually feel like family dinners.
The Sims 3 is different, it's a bigger, freer, open-world. That doesn’t mean it can’t be cozy too. This post is a companion to my video “How to Make The Sims 3 Cozy Like The Sims 2”, gathering all the mods, creators, and playstyle inspiration I talked about in one soft little place 🌿 (Clicked the underlined video title to watch)
