I was captivated by the gorgeous front cover and had a great time with the incredibly simple, but brilliantly effective mechanics.
I was Corcaedos Viel (They/ She), a sketchy cleric trying to escape the tower with as much treasure as they could hold.
My game book was Area X The Southern Reach Trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer.
Cor's ascent was blocked by thorned "Vines DC7" she failed to wrestle and toon her first loss of HP. Searching around, they found a strange "Window DC5" near the ceiling and managed to squeeze through.
On the 3rd floor "Dirt DC5" covered everything and swirling dust bunnies coalesced into an elemental guardian. A swift blow from her mace sent them scattering.
The way to the 4th floor was thick with a choking "Miasma DC5", which initially proved too much for Cor, dropping them to 1 HP, but she listened to the "Voice DC6" of her patron on her mind and let it guide her to safety.
On the 5th floor the bitter "Ghost" of a fallen adventurer stalked, but Cor managed to stealthily find the dessicated corpse and the ornate blade that slew them, pocketing the treasure.
With the 6th floor ahead, a maniacal "Laugh DC10" echoed down the corridor, consuming Cor with its madness. She fell to screaming rabid mirth...
*I am biased, Evey is a friend and inspiration.
I had the absolute pleasure of Evey running this for a group I was in a while back using her dark fairytale TTRPG, Broken Wilds (https://violentmedia.itch.io/broken-Wilds) and it was an absolute blast! If I recall, my Hedge Witch, Baba Gronk, got feirself the power to summon leeches and dehydrated the old man. It was beautiful carnage!
It was wonderful to finally get my hands on this incredibly original and tragically poetic adventure that is truly unlike anything else! There's such a flavourful depth and life in so few words and the ridiculous surreality and all too real suffering and loss mix together into something truly strange and sublime.
There's a reason why nearly every time Wet Grandpa is mentioned more than one person says it's the favourite thing they've ever read or played.
Conveniently they are all in this collection https://itch.io/c/3224274/my-generators-resources
Been eagerly (and patiently) awaiting this for a long time and so excited to get my hands on it and for you to have it released! Hell yeah!
I ran a game of Goon City: Troika! and a Chaos Champion had a Tchotchke of a Yongardy Lawyer (a bloody, broken quill and rapier), which she said she got from murdering the Lawyer for their hotel room, so I'm hoping to get some inspiration for ramifications of that during my play thoughs.
I know it's been a while and the project has had it's trials and tribulations, but I couldn't be more happy for it to be out and no longer hanging over you like Judge Damocles!
All the best.
PS If I have any issues to raise, you won't find me in the comments, but the Squared Circle Courtroom!
I cannot thank you enough for sharing yourself with me and I truly appreciate your response to this. I'm truly sorry for your pain and that this was triggering for you. I am so happy that you have light, people around you, and your faith. I am sorry that I am not very active on here and have only just seen this. I have taken a while away with my capacity and chronic conditions needing tending to, but I hope to be back to making things again in the future, and heartfelt reactions like this are so encouraging. Thank you!
Truly wishing you the best. Sending love, support, and solidarity xx
