Also to be clear if you put the new Harry Potter show on my dashboard I will be unfollowing and probably blocking you. JK Rowling is responsible for the death and pain of too many trans people to count in my country and I cannot tolerate her new way of trying to gain cultural and financial power in any way shape or form.

I don't even want to see critiques of it. I don't want to see hatewatch reviews about how bad or dumb or racist or transphobic parts of it are like people did for the fantastic beasts movies of the hogwarts video game. You are part of the problem. Do not feed the machine. Let it die. You do not need to consume media you don't like just to show off to everyone else how much you don't like it. It's especially heinous if you say something like "I'm donating the cost of a movie ticket or a month's streaming subscription to a trans charity," because that doesn't balance the scales, it doesn't negate the evil, it just shows you are willing to support both sides, making you a spineless coward.

Just fucking ignore it and understand that it's going to be recationary on purpose. It's going to be full of bait. Warner Bros is counting on there being a ton of controversy to boost the numbers because there's no such thing as bad publicity.

DO NOT ENGAGE. Let it come and go, and maybe the numbers will be bad enough that it gets canceled before it gets to book 7. Probably not, though. This is a tentpole for WB, they're putting all their eggs in this basket, it's not gonna bomb like Morbius. They're gonna push it through to the end no matter what, so just do your part by not playing along.

don’t even pirate it. let it die in obscurity.

i truly think that this recent trend of “if you relate to a post about a different identity than your own you are ~derailing~ and taking over the conversation” is incredibly harmful.

i recently experienced some pretty severe transphobic abuse in my workplace (children’s home) that included having food thrown at me, being called slurs, being told i was a pervert because i am trans. one of the managers talked with me afterwards and shared that he had had a similar experience as an Asian man. this wasn’t him derailing my experience, or talking over me, or making things about himself. he was communicating “hey, i know how it feels and how much it sucks. you’re not alone.”

THAT is what solidarity IS. i don’t know what it’s like to be Asian, he doesnt know what it’s like to be trans, but we both had a similar experience and we were able to turn a horrible experience into an opportunity for bonding and comfort.

stop looking at people’s attempts as solidarity as an attack. and hey, you never know - you could find an opportunity to grow closer to other people.

Looking at what national news outlets are up to right now, one might not realize a whole major US metropolitan area is, you know, sort of under attack by paramilitary forces. Wild.

While it's not going unreported entirely, what's been happening in Minnesota and in Minneapolis–Saint Paul in particular since Renee Good was murdered is not getting the attention it should be.

There are already 2000 gangsters from DHS deployed, and "hundreds" or "1000" more are on the way, depending on which Trumpland person you ask. As a point of reference, the Twin Cities' actual police total just under 1200 (600 in Minneapolis and 590 in Saint Paul according to the depts' sites).

The feds there are more or less attacking people at random. They've gone door-to-door for "citizenship checks" (completely illegal). They've knocked doors down when residents haven't complied (obviously also completely illegal). In addition to abducting and brutalizing the immigrants they come across during their rampages, they've done the same to US citizens of color and are also harassing, stalking and physically attacking observers.

Here are some local sources:

Below are some videos from observers. I'm linking to Bluesky because that's where I saw them, though many are originally from/also available elsewhere. I apologize for the rancid formatting below but it was the best I could do quickly-ish. The images are previews; click the links in the timestamps to watch.

Schools had to cancel classes due to threats from ICE, and the city districts are offering virtual learning for children who are scared to leave the house.

High schoolers had classes canceled all last week because hours after Good was murdered, Border Patrol gents attacked them as school was getting out, tackled, beat and handcuffed staff, and tear gassed students.

Just a note of the scale/how it’s affecting people at every level and in every context.

Mix of agencies too: CPB, DHS, ICE.

i think some people are under the impression that if you weren't raised in an explicitly religious or sexual-purity-obsessed environment that you probably have a normal balanced cultural relationship to sex. & i am saying especially to my fellow usamericans. being Weird About Sex is not just a explicitly religious thing, sex negativity is deeply entrenched in our culture in a lot of ways, you have almost certainly internalized at least some of them especially as it relates to sex work and masturbation, You Are Not Immune To Propaganda etc etc

white americans when you tell them that the idea of climate change as an impending disaster is a reductive first world perspective because it’s a tangible reality for many in the global south already:

sillyguy-supreme

maybe if you see south and southeast asians dying in the heat and latin americans dying in floods and all you think of is imagining a reality where YOU are affected, then you should rethink how you see people of color. if you cannot see climate change as a real disaster until it is other americans dying in the heat and the floods and not just black and brown people, then don’t talk about climate change until you can acknowledge the grim reality of climate change for everyone.

It is still wild to me that I legitimately have to research in a bikini in order to effectively collect data.

And the reason being is that people (of all genders equally) perceive me as a threat otherwise.

People have said before that they are concerned I’m gonna get them in trouble, but I think the real reason folks get mean is that tourists effectively enter a liminal space when they go on vacations (especially American tourists on tropical vacations) and they don’t want anything to pull them out of that mindset.

So when I show up with a clipboard and wanting to talk while wearing an outfit that clearly says “I’m working, but not in any sort of position that exists in your vacation fantasy,” that pulls them out of the fantasy and they react negatively.

Meanwhile, if I’m dressed the same way everyone else is, even if I have a clipboard and want to talk about the same thing, I automatically become a wacky NPC who is part of the fantasy.

I no longer hear “It’s really weird that you’re just out here watching people” but instead “You get to lay on the beach all day and call it “work?” Hell yeah! Living the dream!”

Yes I study raccoons. The critically endangered pygmy raccoons like to live at beach clubs. My current study is looking at interactions between tourists and/or tourism industry staff and the raccoons.

Surely this is just environmental camouflage that let's you get closer to your subjects?

It's just as valid as when wildlife photographers cover themselves in netting with twigs and leaves attached or hide inside a fake rock right?
