about
A Poem. Created as a potential voice over for our film "Venous Returns" by the Dirty Laundry Collective. Although not used, it remains a powerful call to action. This piece was recorded in the Sonic Lab Belfast by PHD student and mentor Isaac Gibson. The end of the piece was acquired (recycled lol) for my one woman show and spoken at the end of "Fermented Dreams"
lyrics
Where is the room for all the names?
The voices halted
There’s no room for the living
No room
But there is space
For a name
Etched into benches,
Amongst Spring flowers
Statues in green, lush plains
Plaques in immortal concrete
Reminding us of our continuation
But no room for the living
No room
No room
Where is the room for all the voices
The ones we’ve lost
The echoes of their utterances
(Their) laughs
(Their) screams
(breaths-whisper)
A leftover vibration nestled in a bedroom wall?
Or did it bubble up from the ocean
Bursting with it’s urgency
We can hold the remains of a shrill cry
Once it is silenced
But the living
We have
No room
We search for space to hold
A room of one's own to mold
Not survival mode
I am not afraid to let parts of me die
Decompose
Re-composure
Transformation
Cyclical
And we move
Trying to rise
I call you all
Take your time
But there is space
Left by legacy
We are calling
We are resting not halting
Finding community
Leaning inwards
I hold space for you
To rise
