Listen to the flapping of Czajka & Puchacz [Lapwing & Eagleowl]

Perhaps you like the feeling, when an album sounds different from what you have expected? Even if you knew the musicians very well? If yes, then you’re at the right place. If you still remember the album Bivališča from 2020, you will definitely recognize the elements of their distinctive language in the new recording as well. Obsessive motive repetitions and mutations, ADHD synths and strong interplay. Even though Flapping isn’t a typical impro record, there is plenty of original and incredibly inteligent instrumental music on it. Czajka & Puchacz don’t need a twenty-five-minute improvisation to say something, speaking strictly musically.

However, there are at least two new features: the lyrics and the autotune. In his writing, Szymon plays with conventions in his unique way: in the walls of the hastily constructed barracks of everyday life, he drills holes overlooking metaphysics. Their interpretation plays a significant role as well - paraliturgical melodeclamations become surreal through autotune and/or vocoder. It doesn’t matter if you think of the autotune as a death threat or an amazing tool for democratizing singing - after listening to Flapping, it will gain another dimension for you.

Kaja and Szymon possess a truly enormous array of aesthetic and technical tools. And they don't hesitate to use them. This creates music that is both, serious and playful, acoustic and electronic, vocal and instrumental, sacred and secular, tender and sarcastic, unruly and precise, refined and hideous.
