sometimes i wonder if we have forgotten that sharing creative work is, fundamentally, a bid for human connection. like I’m not posting art or fic for ‘engagement’ i’m posting it looking for other sickos to play with! i’d be making it anyway for my own gratification because there’s something wrong with me, i’m sharing it hoping we can have something wrong with us together <3

This is called the “analog loophole” and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it. They can encrypt and copy-protect all they want, but eventually the file has to be sent to a speaker and/or screen, and it has to get there in a human-readable form because that’s the whole dang point
The simplest way to exploit the analog loophole is just pointing a camera at a screen or a microphone at a speaker, but direct recording is also always possible and always will be. Anything that can be displayed can be saved and displayed again
Back in the day, people also used to share software over the radio with this technology. Because computer programs and files are really just sets of binary code, and that code can be turned into audio tones.
The resulting audio file can be played over the radio (sounding a bit like the old dial up noise, as it’s just two quickly oscillating notes) and recorded to a cassette tape, which you can then give to your computer to “decode” back into 0’s and 1’s, which gives you the program file. You can then run it as if you’d installed it from a disk.

for those who don’t know, the freedom flotilla, a ship headed to gaza to try and get some aid past the israeli siege, just left with among its crew swedish activist greta thunberg, irish actor liam cunningham, and french member of the european parliament rima hassan.
the ship has already been bombed twice during previous attempts at approaching gaza.
my only hope is that if we make enough noise this time, israel won’t dare bomb it with such prominent international figures on board, from fear of making them martyrs and turning the rest of the world against them.
so talk about it, post about it, and expect, demand their mission to succeed and their safe return 🙏
the only power we have is political and economic pressure at this point. ethics are out of the picture when it comes to the israeli government. so we need to make it clear that bombing this ship would be a declaration of war against europe.
