• (this is a review & character analysis, i am talking about charlie’s flaws without justifying her but that’s just bc i think she’s interesting & morally grey & this is about one specific facet of her)

i honestly think it works so much better if “redemption” in this show is not seen as genuine moral highground naritively, but as being an exclusionary, sanatized, christian moral purity,

angel dust & alastor are naritively holding hands bc both of them prove that charlie & the hotel will absoluetly use you up then abandon you during your time of need if your problems are too ugly & complicated or if they can possibly blame you for your suffering, & she doesn’t even realize that’s what she in doing, partly because of the same christian moral purity expectations that founded the hotel in the first place, the “bad people deserve bad things” & the “doing things i think are bad makes you bad, unless you can clense yourself & be good through self sacrifice, whether literal or metaphorical” that underpins a lot of christofascist ideology

“the people of hell need to be punished for being bad, but if we can make them good, we won’t have to punish them any more” without ever thinking, why should we uphold a crime & punishment system like this in the first place?
