The El Geneina Resistance Committee in West Darfur corroborated alarming findings from an unpublished UN Security Council Panel of Experts report on Darfur, which has already been widely circulated. The report, confirmed by a statement on the committee’s official Facebook page yesterday, details how assaults by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) resulted in the deaths of 237 patients. Among them, 37 women who died due to obstetric complications, along with 200 dialysis patients.

The committee assert that the RSF, alongside allied militias, targeted health facilities and hospitals in El Geneina, ransacking and destroying them, thereby debilitating the city’s crucial health and treatment services.

Eyewitness testimonies further allege the execution of patients within clinics during the attacks.

The UN says 484,626 people have sheltered there since the fighting broke out, with armed groups forcing more than 8,000 people to flee to Chad in one week.

Formal camps managed by NGOs and informal settlements erected spontaneously have sprouted throughout the border region of Ouaddai.

A traumatised Amira Khamis, 46, said she was targeted due to her Masalit ethnicity and has lost five of her children.

Recovering in an emergency medical structure run by the NGO Doctors Without Borders (MSF) near the Adre camp after shrapnel fractured her feet, she told AFP women and young girls were raped.

"They systematically kill all the people of dark black colour," she said.

Mahamat Nouredine, a 19-year-old who is nursing a fractured arm and has lost four relatives in the violence, said the RSF mercilessly hounded the Masalit community before he escaped to Chad.

"A group of RSF followed us to a hospital and tried to kill everyone... they laid us on the ground in groups of 20 and fired at us," he said.

"Their unspoken goal is to kill people due to their skin colour."

People fleeing Sudan's West Darfur region to neighbouring Chad have reported a new surge in ethnically driven killings, as the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took over the main army base in the state capital, El Geneina.

Toby Harward, a senior United Nations official for Darfur, described reports and images emerging from Ardamata as "sickening." He appealed in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, for those with authority to protect civilians and provide unfettered humanitarian access.

The UN's refugee agency warned the war in Sudan has evolved in "scope and brutality" and that "the world is scandalously silent, though violations of international humanitarian law persist with impunity."

In Sudan, human rights groups say members of the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group carried out a massacre of around 1,300 Masalit people over three days earlier this month in Sudan’s West Darfur region. About 2,000 people were injured in the attacks, and at least 300 others remain missing. Survivors of the massacre say RSF fighters went from house to house looking for men, killing each one they found. On Friday, the United Nations warned more than 6 million people have fled their homes in Sudan since fighting between rival military factions erupted in April. About 25 million people — or more than half Sudan’s population — are reliant on aid. This is the U.N.’s humanitarian coordinator for Sudan.

Clementine Nkweta-Salami: “We are running out of words to describe the horror of what is happening in Sudan. We continue to receive unrelenting and appalling reports of sexual and gender-based violence, enforced disappearance, arbitrary detentions and grave violations of human and children’s rights. What is happening is verging on pure evil.”
