See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Time to resume reworking and improving the little fantasy world I made over 3 years ago for my D&D campaign. I’ve come a long way as a DM since then, and I wasn’t happy with my initial vision for the campaign and this world and so it is that the campaign is on pause for now while I run another one, and work on this world and story in the meantime to do it justice. It’s not much but it is my own creation, and I want it to be the best I can make it

Hunting the Night - Session 1

I did not manage to cover everything that I had planned for this session, but I don’t mind. One player could not make it, and that was a bummer but we still managed to have a really fun session. I felt like I did a decent job setting up the tone of the campaign. This was the first session I ran over Roll20 so there were some initial hiccups as everyone got used to it. The campaign opened up with the party surrounded by fog in the middle of a swamp just as night was setting in, protecting a merchant who had hired them to escort him to a village. A foglet, who was the source of the fog, had its eye on them. The start definitely did surprise my players, given all the previous ones I’ve run usually start off at a tavern or some other place with no immediate action, so seeing roll for initiative among the very first things I said did throw them off a bit. The combat could’ve gone better, and faster, but with everyone still figuring out their character sheets, it’s understandable it took a while. I feel like I could’ve used the foglet’s invisibility better but it can be a frustrating mechanic to deal with, especially at lower levels, so I decided not to push it. Following that, there were some good roleplay moments as the party travelled through the swamp towards the village, The players grew fond of the merchant very soon, and so I’m happy I did a good job with him (a player threatened to hunt me if i hurt the merchant lmao). His interaction with the party, and the guards as the party reached the village, really just fleshed him out. An NPC the party cares about is an NPC well done. Following that, the party checked into the local Inn for the night, where they interacted with the innkeep, a waitress, and her husband. They learned of the happenings in the village, that there are jobs available for them to take, enjoyed some food and drink, and roleplayed some fun conversations. I decided to end the session as the party retired for the night. I could’ve kept it going for a while more but it was a good ending point, and I’d like to continue into the business end of this part with all of the players. Everyone had a good time, and that’s all one can ask for as a DM. Onto the next session now. Hopefully things kick off then, and it goes faster than today. Even if not, I’m sure it’ll be entertaining still. There’s a lot more fun stuff planned for the later sessions that I just can’t wait to throw at my party.
