The Beekeeper's Picnic is half price this week as part of Steam Detective Fest!
It's a tender story about Sherlock Holmes' retirement and figuring out a future with Watson wrapped in cosy point‑and‑click puzzles.

i loved how the soviet series adapted the return of holmes; the way which watson is touching holmes to have certain that he is not a ghost (what happened in the original book, actually) but the hug was a exceptional and cute addition
I applaud Arthur Conan Doyle for basically mainstreaming the concept of 'match my freak.'
Any normal person would have gone, 'this bloke is a little bit dodgy', if they'd seen their potential roommate/a complete stranger screaming about haemoglobins and whatnot - but Watson just rubbed his hands together, and went, 'this is the one!' Absolute freaks.
just found an interview to Jeremy Brett in 1985, here are some of my favourite parts (i haven't read the whole thing yet)
plus this photo of Brett with a certificate of the Priory Scholars
Sherlock Holmes is the funniest case of “doomed by the narrative” ever. Doomed by the narrative and destined to die young bc the creator hated him, and then the fans literally bullied him into un-dooming the narrative, writing about him for another thirty years, and giving the character a canonical happy ending where he retires to the countryside and keeps bees. Funniest shit ever.
WE LOVED HIM SO MUCH HE GREW OLD
STOP THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A FUNNY POST
The Resident Patient
“I was weary of our little sitting-room, and gladly acquiesced, muffling myself nose-high against the keen night air. For three hours we strolled about together, watching the ever-changing kaleidoscope of life as it ebbs and flows through Fleet Street and the Strand.”
I mean, I know this man is having the worst fucking day of his life
I literally CANNOT with the BBC radio dramas anymore because what the hell was The Devil's Foot. like. do you really mean to tell me that Holmes and Watson sit on this cliff overlooking the sea and Watson's nagging at Holmes for being gloomy and tells him that the view is romantic, and out of nowhere, Holmes just recites this bit from Wagner's Tristan and Isolda: "so let us die, and never part; together, for the rest of time; no more waking, no more fearing; nameless, endless, loving, sharing; existing only in each other; rapt in love and death and darkness" like. what do you mean Sherlock Holmes casually recites poetry with Watson next to him in the most romantic place ever? and THEN, you would think that it'd be enough for the BBC and their queer coding of every single episode, but NO, they go even further and MAKE HOLMES SAY IT WHEN HE'S HALLUCINATING BECAUSE OF THE POISON. like. sir. what the fuck. he's losing his mind, literally dying next to Watson and we hear that whole poetry bit again. "so let us die, and never part" they are dying, HELLO???? "rapt in love and death and darkness" when indeed he and Watson are in that moment rapt in love and death and darkness. what the FUCK.
and do NOT make me started on the delivery of "I thought I knew my Watson" because it made me go absolutely feral. fucking hell. someone sedate me after this.
@may-shepard here is the link i have, on bbc sounds:
these are with carleton hobbes i think, but i'm pretty sure i have also heard the clive merrison radio dramas on bbc sounds, it might take some poking around, or they might come and go while these stay up? anyway, you can listen to DEVI (it's a few pages in) and see.
@sarahthecoat thank you!! Hooray!
i went into the "all" tab, and the clive merrison ones are in there too, they just aren't available to stream right now. but keep an eye on the "next on" tab in case they decide to run them again.
inspired by @twasforresearch's post here!! i drew these a while ago and just didn't post them
he's wearing the silly deerstalker™️ and the ulster/inverness cape (forgot which is which) and smoking the curly pipe
i love him a lot
