Comms open

Random rambling bcs I’ve just rewatched the Predating vs UM and Wheeljack fight in S03 ep 9. Are these obvious? Yes, but I very much just want to yap.

The fight scene was constructed intelligently to tell us what exactly their fighting style were and how they later made up for each other’s weakness and managed to hold their on against Predaking.

By at first separating them, we get to see how they individually choose to fight against an opponent like Predaking: stronger, faster, more durable but inexperience and instinctive. It’s clear that a constant combo works, the ways they went about it were ofc different.

Wheeljack is smaller and more agile, so he used maneuvers to evade Predaking and then run/jump back to gain more power in his punches/kicks. The problem was however he needed time to and by charging directly into Predaking, he could predict the trajectory per instinct/ learning curve and then disrupted Wheeljack’s combo, which was exactly what happened in the end, which then Magnus jumped in.

Ultra Magnus is evidently not as fast as Wheeljack so the only thing he could do was keep combo-ing until Predaking dropped. He could manage a closer distant as he was more sizable and his hit was stronger. But then he’s not fast enough. Predaking ofc then outmaneuvered Magnus and his combo was also gone.

So long story short, Wheeljack’s fast and agile but lack power, Magnus’s strong and durable but not fast, and by the time they worked together, their strengths overlapped with the other’s weaknesses which helped them almost win against Predaking.

I love the perfect parallel between kindness and cruelty from two different leaders’ perspective of how treat the poor deceased deer (that’s the same deer Optimus Prime have stomped on, by the way), Optimus got upset after he accidentally killed the animal that he didn’t mean to, while Megatron was like “what the hell is this rubbish? get that shit out of my sight!”

Daniel Warren Johnson is an absolute brilliant both writer and artist.

Lets see

Optimus being unaware of the deer - Megatron actively searching for traces of Optimus, hence being very aware of his action

Human companion - Cybertronian companion, which in a way let us know which side they are currently choosing. However both are playing the role of “the son”.

Daytime - Night time

Acknowledgement of the deer’s existence from Optimus - Dismissal from Megatron

Life - Death

The deer being whole - the deer’s corpse is decayed

Optimus honored and appreciated the creature - Megatron defiled it further by dig up the grave and toss the body away

Continuing the thought from my previous post. This one is a bit of a stretch and prob insane but just have to put it out of my head.

The idea of including Ultra Magnus into the Wreckers team of TFP (initially just Bulkhead, Wheeljack and Miko) would have been beneficial for Miko as a character, as he introduces something although not new, but in a more effective way than previously done: a clear chain of command and an actual authoritative figurehead.

Bulkhead despite being her official Autobot guardian, could not tell her what to do. Nobody could really but as her assigned guardian, shits get worse with him. Sure she would listen in desperate situation calls for, but more often than not, he has little control over her actions. He acts similar to a protector, who looks for her back rather than a guide.

Wheeljack is clearly her enabler. His tendency for acting spontaneous and chaotic plays well with her thrill for action, he considers her a full blown partner although she is a human teenager, and she could have been crushed with a simple step or blown apart by a blast shot when spying inside that cape in ss2 ep 16 (its ep 16 not 17).

Most of the time the Bots avoid needing the kids’ physical involvement unless absolute necessary or there are some sorts of guarantied backup. That spying part had none of those, and let’s say it’s straight up a bless for Wheeljack that the others did not know about it.

So introducing himself as the commanding officer, Ultra Magnus basically turns their relationship into something professional, and creating a somewhat distance between him and the others.

Yes it was discussed in the series as a bad thing, but maintaining a professional realtionship could have done wonders for Miko, because this is not another alien friend like Bulkhead, Wheeljack, Bee or even Arcee, this is an military officer, closer to how Optimus is to them with a mix of Fowler, but even more distant and professional. By putting himself on a higher pedestal, Magnus has a better chance (emphasis on chance, let’s be real and not delulu) to tell her what to do, and with the fact that she later received the Apex Armor and could fight in the frontline, she absolutely needs a better guidance in battle strategy than “go apeshit crazy”.

Although having no regard for authority, Miko does respect people who earns it and will listen to them if necessary. Basically if you let her walk all over you, she will but if you assert your authority while still respect her as an individual, she will take you seriously.

TLDR I’m telling you he acts best as her drill sergeant/ teacher because with him everyone will be treated all the same as soldiers, so equal right equal fight whether you are a bot or human.

Ultra Magnus, you will never beat the girl dad allegations.

I’m aware that in TFP he didn’t get to do much, but it’s still low key in theme as he adjusts to Miko’s hyper energetic and chaotic self pretty quick.

Like he’s aware that she has no regard for authority and just accepts it in a way?

GREAT TEACHER, GOJO

For my final commentary on chapter 236, I thought I’d talk about this panel the starter of a million flame wars on twitter dot com. The big controversy is Nanami stating that Gojo fought only for himself without mentioning his students which a lot of people thought was a last minute reversal on Gojo’s character, or character regression.

I’m not going to call anyone stupid, or say if you have good teacher Gojo headcanons you’re wrong. However, I’d like to point out that Gojo’s always been more complicated than most shonen mentors. He’s not Kakashi, and he’s not Aizawa, and I’d argue the fact that he’s not the standard “I’d die to protect my students” mentor we see in shonen manga is what makes him interesting.

Just finish LOSH and ngl it was slept on. The story was interesting af and i love how they got away with all of the murder, death and trauma.

idk if the animation crew did also work on Batman 2004 because they had pretty similar style and animation. It’s creative, dynamic and impactful. The choreography and camera work is accumulate.

Kell-El was an surprisingly good additional to the show. The idea of edgy Superman is tiring by now but i like how they handled it. It was not just for fun but rather a reasonable response to the environment he was grown up with.

My fav thing abt Kel is his fighting style : brutal and efficient. While Superman relied more on being impenetrable and could deliver heavy punches ( and he mainly just punched ). Kell fought with his whole body, even using the momentum of the previous move to power up the next.

You think fighting Superman is bad, imagine fighting a Superman who is born to choose violence, have duo daggers and live off survival mode.

P.S I need those flying and super speed ones do the whole “tornado spin move” more. It’s underused!
