On November 30th, 2017, Samsung sold its Esports division, which included the League of Legends 2017 World Championship roster, Samsung Galaxy to Silicon Valley-based esports firm KSV which was founded earlier in the year by Kevin Chou and Kent Wakeford, co-founders of the video game development company Kabam, Michael Li, and Phillip Hyun. [69]

They participated in the LCK 2018 Spring Split but were eliminated in the playoffs after falling 1-2 against SK Telecom T1. Following the split, they announced their rebranding in May, changing their name from KSV to Gen.G Esports. [70] Heading into Summer Gen.G also added Moon "Mong" Chang-min, and Song "Fly" Yong-jun to their roster for the regular season. [71] This time the team ended in 4th in the regular season, but saw a prompt exit after losing to the Afreeca Freecs. With their elimination, they now thad to go through the Regional Finals as a last chance to go to Worlds. Starting off in the first round as the third seed, they were able to battle their way through, defating the likes of SKT, Griffin and DragonX to qualify as the last Korean representative.

Their run at Worlds however would be dissapointing one. Falling way behind in the expectations had of the LCK, the team was eliminated in the group stage, ending last in their group with a 1-5 record. To conclude the year, they would part ways with a large part of their roster as Ambition, Haru, Crown, CoreJJ, and Mong all took their leave, marking an end to the roster that won Worlds in 2017.[72][73]

The 2019 season saw Gen.G finishing in 7th place in LCK Spring and 6th in LCK Summer, failing to qualify for Worlds. In the 2020 season, they finished 2nd in LCK Spring and reached the playoff stage of the Mid-Season Cup. They ended 3rd in LCK Summer and secured a spot in Worlds as the 3rd seed via the LCK 2020 Regional Finals. They reached the quarter-finals, but ended up losing to G2 Esports.

In 2021, Gen.G finished 2nd in LCK Spring but did not qualify for MSI 2021. But in the 2022 LCK Summer Split, Gen.G secured their first LCK championship by defeating T1 in the finals with a 3-0 score, earning them the first seed for the 2022 World Championship. At Worlds, Gen.G performed well in the group stage, finishing first, and advanced to the quarter-finals where they beat DAMWON Gaming in a close 3-2 series. However, in the semi-finals, they faced DRX and lost the series 1-3.

In LCK Spring 2023, Gen.G once again won the championship by defeating T1 in the finals with a 3-1 score, securing their first seed for the Mid-Season Invitational 2023, alongside T1. The team finished 4th in the Bracket Stage of MSI, after losses to T1 and Bilibili Gaming. On August 20th, Gen.G emerged victorious in LCK Summer 2023, achieving the second three-peat in the history of LCK, while also qualifying for Worlds as LCK's 1st seed.

In the Swiss Stage, Gen.G were one of the two teams that advanced to the Quarterfinals without dropping a single match. The finalized bracket for the Knockout Stage seemed to favor Gen.G as well, with Peyz commenting "Luck is on our side."[74] However, Gen.G was eliminated by BLG in the quarterfinals with a 2-3 upset, and Peyz's comment was later interpreted as arrogance.

In LCK Spring 2024, Gen.G came out on top of the Group Stage, dropping only one match against KT Rolster. Their win streak continued, achieving the first 4-peat in the history of LCK.[76] Their win streak continued in the MSI, bringing back the MSI trophy to LCK for the first time in 7 years;[77] the first ever international trophy under the name Gen.G. Despite being swept by TES in the quarterfinals of EWC 2024, Gen.G continued their win streak in the LCK, becoming the first team to qualify for Worlds via the MSI champion seed.[78][79]
