Battle.net 2.0

Battle.net has remained the official server since the launch of Reforged (January 28, 2020). Initially it did not include skill-based matchmaking, until patch 1.33.0 brought back the functionality (August 17, 2022).

W3Champions

W3Champions (W3C) started out as a substitute for the ladder in Reforged. It was created by Germany Pad. It uses FLO servers [1] to provide the best conditions to all players. Thanks to that, W3C is currently considered the most popular server. Among its features are the ability to watch live games and a ladder for such modes as Reign of Chaos (defunct on Battle.net), All the Randoms, Legion TD, Direct Strike and Warhammer: Eternal Strife. W3Champions has 26 servers around the World.

KK!

KK Battle Platform ( KK对战平台 ) is a Chinese client for Warcraft III with main purpose to gather all fans of Warcraft III RPG maps in China. It is managed by Shenzhen Ruifeng Network Technology Co., Ltd. ( 深圳市锐锋网络科技有 ) and officialy launched 13th of December, 2022. It had been using Patch 1.27 only before June 6, 2024, when it added the option to play on the current patch. In August 2024, the Sky server was merged into it. In October 2024 it was announced that top players of the ladder would be rewarded with prize money. Since then, many Asian tournaments switched from W3Champions to KK. On November 6, 2024 KK added a second server - China North - to be used in international tournaments.

Irinabot.ru

Irinabot.ru is a client (connector) for Warcraft III whose main goal is to gather all Warcraft 3 fans on patch 1.26. It is managed by the Irinabot team and officially launched around 2014-2015. The platform has its own rating and modes, allowing you to play both regular and custom games.

Rubattle.net

Rubattle.net - unofficial platform for playing Warcraft 3, Diablo 2 and StarCraft from the online edition of PlayGround.ru . It has a private server for Warcraft 3, running from 2005 to the present, supported by the RopNet campaign. A distinctive feature of this server is installed on it patch 1.26, as well as a full-fledged and ladder old-style, the same functionality as was on the platforms Battle.net 1.0 and W3Arena.

Blizzard Battle.net (first named "Battle.net") is an Internet-based online gaming, social networking, digital distribution, and digital rights management platform developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Battle.net was launched on December 31st, 1996, with the release of Blizzard's action-role-playing video game Diablo.

In order to provide the best online gaming experience and especially to minimize delay between the action of players and the reaction of the server supporting the game, Blizzard initially divided the world in 4 servers :

  • Lordaeron : the U.S. West gateway,
  • Azeroth : the U.S. East gateway,
  • Northrend : the Europe gateway,
  • Kalimdor : the Asia gateway.


In November 2018 (i.e. Patch 1.30.2 release), another gateway (Korea) was created.
Since the Reforged release

  • Lordaeron & Azeroth have been merged into the Americas,
  • Northrend has become Europe
  • Kalimdor & Korea have been merged into Asia.


For a long time Battle.net had been the only way to play Warcraft III online. Since then, other servers like W3Arena (for Europe & Americas) or NetEase (Blizzard official Chinese partner) have been created.

W3Arena

W3Arena (W3A) was a Warcraft III alternative and non-official platform. It had a community page and a private server for Warcraft 3. It was the go-to choice of high-level players from Europe and the Americas for 1v1 and 2v2 games. It ran from 2012 to April 2018.

NetEase

NetEase is a Chinese IT company who is Blizzard Entertainment's publisher and business operator in Mainland China. They operate a special client for Warcraft III in China that features a ladder system with an observer mode. It ran from November 5th, 2015, to January 24th, 2023.

Garena

Garena was a popular server where many tournaments were held. It was active from 2006 until January 2015.

Haofang

Haofang was a Chinese multigame platform. The platform was free-to-use between 2002 and 2004 with almost 1 million online users in the its peak. Haofang was purchased by Shanda company that year and moved into paid model which resulted in drop of number of the active users.

YY

Tencent

Tencent was one of unofficial Chinese servers.

VS Platform

VS Platform was a Chinese multigame platform, that started in 2005. While Haofang platform was losing its userbase, VS took another approach with less number of available games and bigger professionalism. After DOTA rise in 2007, the online user base was raising, reaching 1 million in 2010.

Sky

The Sky server was founded by China Sky. It was launched in September 2023 and used Patch 1.27. It had prizemoney for ladder standings. In August 2024 it was merged into the KK server[2].

CAnet

[edit]

CAnet unofficial closed server with several locations, which was developed and intended as an analog of Irinabot for players from Central Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Development was started on January 10, 2024 and closed on December 10, 2024 due to lack of funding.
