8Men is the mesmerising new album by Ayrshire-raised, Glasgow-based producer and singer Isa Gordon - a bold reimagining of the folk compilation as something living, volatile and future-facing. Across eight tracks, Gordon pulls centuries-old traditionals and 20th-century songs into a warped electronic landscape of skirling synth drones, quaking beats and hauntingly processed vocals. Folk tales of love, war, family and womanhood are stripped back to their emotional core, then rebuilt using club music, experimental sound design and a fierce punk spirit, creating something that feels both ancient and startlingly new.

Split evenly between traditional songs and covers of artists who’ve deeply influenced her listening - including Richard Thompson, Lou Reed, Robert Wyatt and Black Sabbath - 8Men places 500-year-old ballads alongside modern “folk-lore” narratives, suggesting they belong to the same continuum. It’s an album of mini-myths and cautionary tales, where oral tradition meets modern production, and where songs aren’t preserved behind glass but re-animated, reshaped and allowed to mutate. Released on limited-edition cassette right now and on digital streaming services in March, 8Men is a spellbinding, genre-defying statement from a truly singular voice.
