Mm. MMMMM. Torn, so you’re getting both. First things first, Elliot. Beloved demon of mine, the character I named myself after, beautiful annoying Elliot. I’ve been affectionately describing him as “three twigs in a miniskirt”. He’s Cadoc’s godson. His great-something-or-other uncle is Taegan, Cadoc’s onagain offagain ex over the centuries, and Taegan was under the impression he had no family, so Cadoc stepped in when Elliot was a baby. He grows up to be an incredible and passionate cook, and is, admittedly, very vain. He loves fashion and I dread having to learn anything about it to be able to describe him the way he demands I must. He’s the only character I’ve ever made who told me feature by feature what his face looks like; I genuinely struggle to picture my characters properly. Like I said, he’s a bit vain. In the spirit of continuing to bully him, I’ll say that I specialize in writing characters who are incredibly intelligent and yet also… make the most ridiculous decisions possible. I sound harsh while talking about him, I can and will slut shame the man (he demands so many smut scenes, chill dude), but know I love him. While his story ideally will be set at least 20 years after the events of the main PD trilogy, I’m enjoying knowing I’ll have the opportunity to write a romcom esque novel. I’m developing a habit of writing A Story, and then using the sandbox i made out of that worldbuilding to play with completely different genres in said sandbox.
Although, speaking of characters who are incredibly intelligent and yet make stupid decisions, the other character I’ve been really excited about lately is Kane. Kane is Amara and Cin’s kid, (PDverse side characters, if you don’t remember them), and I was so determined that he have a demonic form that I changed my own world building, giving Cin and Tu (the hybrid brothers) demonic forms. Kane just had to be able to turn into a dog, okay? for me. He’s the embodiment of a boy with ADHD, he’s a theater kid, he was valedictorian, and he did cross country. He was a whirlwind in high school, graduated, and went “nah im good” and just. does community theater now. He probably won’t even have a book. I just love him as a concept and know he exists. Lookit that guy. He’s so weird. He is absoloutely exactly the kind of kid a mostly reformed cannibal whose personality is “traumatized golden retriever” once he’s gone through his character arc and an impulsive and often dramatic loose canon would have together. His name is pun about how his original concept was “how many kinks can i fit in a character before it seems like overkill?”. I could keep going, but i have a second question to answer LMFAO
~~
When i saw this ask originally I had something in mind, bit that was a while ago and I have since forgot, SO. Hm. The thing is. I am a relatively confident writer, and I have a lot of things I think I do extremely well. I think, however, the thing I need the least amount of work on would be my back and forth dialogue. I think I mentioned this in another ask I just answered earlier this evening, but my writing journey started in literate role play, so a lot of my early writing was literally just that: back and forth with another character. It really helped me hone a lot of skills, but especially that one, early in my writing journey before I was thinking too hard about skills at all. I was just having fun, and i truly wish i still had that skill of turning of the critic in my head when i’m trying something new! middle school me didn’t know what he had when he had it haha. But yeah! I don’t even want to limit it to banter, i think I tend to just write realistic dialogue that pulls you along quite nicely :D
