Watched the first two eps of the new Daredevil series and I'm feeling 50/50 on it. On one hand, the characters still feel pretty spot on, its got a similar feel to the netflix show, i love that it feels like a continuation and the nods to events in the orig series are nice.
HOWEVER...
(Daredevil: Born Again Spoilers)
Adding thoughts now that the first season is nearly over….
Well…I was unfortunately correct about how this show was gonna wind up going now that Disney got it’s grubby mitts on it.
Overall I’ll say im enjoying it…. but thats about it. They really dumbed down the show (and the characters). You can tell that they’re trying to be edgy and dark, but there’s no built in weight to it so everything just kind of happens.
CHARACTERS:
Matt is pretty good and consistent so far compared to his Netflix counterpart but the depth to why he’s doing things isn’t there. Everything in the show is basically just an excuse to get him to put the costume back on, but in a very shallow way.
Fisk used to be a terrifyingly fantastic villain but so far in this series he feels….far less intelligent. He’s no longer cunning in the way his netflix counterpart was.
Vanessa…I don’t even know. I’m enjoying her story arc….but again, it could’ve been done better, like everything else in the show, if they actually let the audience be smart instead of spoon feeding us facts about things.
Frank was great tho so far and Im looking forward to him being in next week’s finale. (at least that seems to be the case given the trailers with him in it)
——-
TLDR; The show tries too hard to be what the netflix show was but fails spectacularly at it. They are trying really hard to tie Daredevil into the rest of the MCU shows with all the one off mentions/cameos. The writing doesn’t let the audience be intelligent about anything and instead spoon feeds us the info we need when we need it. (There is no tangled web of strings being pulled by Fisk and uncovered by Matt & co.)
