The goal of this game is gather enough resources to build the rocket ship without all of your survivors dying.

HOW TO PLAY:

Click the CONTINUE button to advance the event log and progress.

In the "Survivors" window, use the dropdown to assign your survivors tasks. You can make them:

  • Explore
  • Build
  • Defend

Make sure to ALWAYS assign your survivors tasks before starting the day. Here you can also replenish your survivors "thirst" meter by pressing the "Feed" button. This will automatically deplete the resource which the survivor consumes (note the icon on their thirst meter) so be careful!

Warning: Survivors who are made to do a task while their thirst meter is empty may die! This is ok, but can you live with the guilt?

EXPLORE is how you gather resources. The more survivors exploring, the more resources you get. Exploring different locations gets different resources. Select your EXPLORE location in the "Tasks" menu.

BUILD is how you progress in the game. Use SCRAP to supply buildings, and assign survivors to a selected blueprint on the "Builds" menu. Each day you set a survivor assigned to build reduces the work-days needed to complete that build. Each blueprint comes with different benefits, and unlocks new blueprints, progressing you towards the end game. Make sure to press "select" for the build you wish survivors to work on.

DEFEND protects your camps from raids, reducing casualties. This can only happen when your reputation is particularly low or high (<-2 or >2).

After assigning your survivors tasks, press the "Start Day" button on the "Tasks" menu.

A "Daily Event" will be displayed on the log. You may have a choice to make. If so, select an option and press continue. If not, just press continue to proceed. Some choices have results that are difficult to predict -- these are marked "(?)".

If you sent any survivors to explore, an "Explore Event" will be displayed on the log. Select an option, press continue to proceed.

At the end of the day, you will receive a summary of things that happened which were not already printed in the log (building progress, yield from exploration, etc.)

End-game spoilers below! Built the rocket ship? Read on!

OTHER WAYS TO WIN:

There's four different endings to this game. Have you done them all?

  • Side with the HUMANs, and build the rocket ship
  • Side with the CYBORGs, and build the cloud seeder
  • Side with the CANNIBALs, and provide them with lots of...food
  • Side with the DRUIDs, upgrade your Battlements and Arsenal, and vanquish the CANNIBALs at their outposts and during raids.

Warning: endings do not trigger properly. These are objectives to guide your playing but in the game jam build, you will not receive any notification that you won.

HUMAN VICTORY TEXT:

LIFT OFF!

You successfully built the rocketship!

It's on to greener pastures -- or, bluer...?

There's no guarantee this works out. As the fuel begins to ignite and propels you off the only home you've ever known, you begin to have your doubts. Where do you go? Will any of this work out?

You take one last glimpse at Earth, seeing it as no astronaut has ever seen it before: dry, barren, desolate, dead.

Gazing at that inhospitable husk melts your doubts away. There's got to be something better out there. There just has to be.

CANNIBAL VICTORY TEXT:

Oh my god...

I guess this is a victory..?

You killed A LOT of people. Or rather, facilitated their deaths by selling them to the cannibals. The lucky ones were devoured greedily, torn asunder by a ravenous horde. Others were eaten piecemeal, to prevent spoilage.

In addition to water and scrap, the cannibals have shown their appreciation with gifts of:

  • Teeth (inedible)
  • Clay effigies of your countenance
  • Airplane peanuts (found from nearby wreckage)
  • Season 7 of "Frasier" on HD-DVD, disc 3 only
  • Pocket lint ([rainbow]rare![/rainbow])

Clearly, your friends did not die in vain.

Because of your actions, the CANNIBAL faction has grown mighty and wiped the DRUIDs of the face of the Earth. They have ushered in an age of hostility, and have begun farming HUMANs to produce them a ready supply of food. But they've offered you a much more special role, being that you helped them reign supreme over the land.

Being a loyal HUMAN yourself, they thought no one was more suited to run the slaughterhouse. I mean, you wouldn't be tempted to eat the produce...and could you really say no...

CYBORG VICTORY TEXT:

CLIMATE  CHANGE  2: ELECTRIC  BOOGALOO

After the climate disaster that left Earth parched, it only made sense to put all research efforts behind reversing it. How could you justify anything else?

That has been the CYBORG creed. No matter how different anyone looks, they're all people and all want to live and prosper. You have to work together if anything is going to change.

And you made great changes, innovating to the highest degree in all things related to water conservation. With the advent of your Cloud Seeding device, rain can be maximized from clouds. Combined with Irrigation and your myriad of other devices...the possibilities are extremely exciting.

Over the following decades you watched as the dusty Earth you've known all your life grew lush with water. Plants began to return. And soon, civilization.

DRUID VICTORY TEXT:

New Management!

Thanks to your help, by fighting the CANNIBALs at their outposts, and defending from their raids, you have eliminated those evil-doers! Hooray! Earth is free now, right?

Not so fast. By defeating the CANNIBALs you have ended their power struggle with the DRUIDs, who with their new-found power, now claim complete control over Earth.

At first, it seemed fine. Then came the taxes. DRUIDs claimed credit for the era of peace that had been ushered in, and used it as a reason to take a cut of all the water left. If you weren't a DRUID, you drank last. And if there wasn't any water left, you were left parched.

Over time, your heroics were lost to history. Stumbling in a delirium of dehydration, you remember a time where you thought change was possible. You drag yourself to long dried-out well, dreaming of the sound of a drop of water. You thought you were doing the right thing back then. As a DRUID passes you on the street, you try to form the words, try to croak out for help, but it's too late.
