A couple of pics from my showing last weekend. It went very well! It was so hard for me because of my social anxiety - I just hate being the center of attention and I don’t know what to say to people. There were a few people I hit it off with right away and those conversations flowed naturally, but for the most part I would basically say, “Hi, I’m the artist if you have any questions”, and then stand back. Tyler was my wingman (he’s in the photo above) and he’s awesome at keeping me from freaking out and panicking by joking around and making me laugh. Don’t know what I’d do without him! I got some interest from a few collectors who wanted my phone number, so all in all it was a success, even if it did take me several days to recover.
Well, this painting turned out amazing! It has texture, and it’s green and purple metallics, so the colors shift depending on the angle and lighting. It’s my last new one for my show tomorrow.
I’m having a full-blown panic attack right now omg. I just got an email from the art walk I participated in last August and even though I didn’t sign up for the one this weekend (I was planning to do the August one again) they already assigned me to one of the stores! I don’t want to let the store owner down but I don’t have shit ready for this! I have paintings but I don’t have any display equipment or anything and I don’t know what to do! I hate this - I hate last-minute surprises bc of the type of abuse I suffered my entire childhood, they just throw me into a complete panic. I don’t have a car, so I’ll have to find someone to help me get my stuff there and there are only a couple of people who MIGHT be able to if they don’t already have other plans… I don’t have money to rush out and buy display equipment… I’m a fucking MESS right now!
I just went to this bakery/bistro in the next town over to get some good bread for dipping and it’s the first time I’ve been there and I was looking at the decor and it’s all trippy-hippy-ish (a vibe I feel comfortable being in) so even though I’m social-anxiety-ridden and had to really force myself, I asked the girl at the counter, “Hey, do you guys ever work with local artists or anything? I’ve got some stuff that would look great in here.” And she said, “Yes! We actually just started looking for artists to do an artist-of-the-month feature and a showing with the artist present, so if you want to bring in some of your work that would be great!”
So my question that I had to force myself to ask might actually really pay off big! I’m just trying to get some exposure right now because I’m new and this would be the perfect venue!
