sometimes when i'm hanging out in the voice call i'll open and use obs to place everyone's pngtubers around in a little scene like playing with paper dolls. this is enrichment for me. i like to bat my friends around in my claws

you can!

i have some experience as an art streamer, but this set up is super basic. other than just a basic art program if you're making the pngtubers yourself, you need obs, which is free. i was actually using slobs and i'm going to switch Right Now as i make this tutorial, to prove how easy it is to set up.

first you need a png tuber. if you're an artist you can make your own like i did

for a bunch of friends!

OR you could commission an artist.

but even if you don't draw, making a simple pngtuber isn't hard, and i've done them on the fly, in like 5 minutes, for friends when someone without one joins the voice chat. the dumbest pngtuber i ever made was this opossum i mashed together from pictures i found online.

you can just take any image from google and make it transparent. or even just search for images by transparency like this:

here's a Gordon Freeman one where i just took my select tool and just moved his jaw down a little.

your basic png tuber consists of a talk state and a rest state. you can use a png OR a GIF for either. when i make my most basic pngtuber commissions, i use a still image for the rest state, and a simple 2 frame GIF of the character's mouth opening and closing for the talk state. if you wanna go even more basic, you really only need two images, one with the model's mouth open, and one with it closed. like Gordon. you don't even have to make them into a GIF, really. but you can also make longer more complicated gifs for both states.

to make GIFs go to Ezgif. i use the default settings, but for transparent GIFs, remember to select "don't stack frames"

just like that.

then you go to to Discord Reactive and sign in. Upload your talk and rest images for yourself and any friends, foes, what have you. there are also new additional options for being deafened and muted, which is v cute. grab the link for each individual person in the call under "OBS Sources." if your friend already has a pngtuber uploaded to Reactive, this will show by default.

once you've downloaded and launched OBS, you're going to come down here to the + under sources and select "Browser"

image

and in the URL field, paste the link you grabbed from reactive.

image

and that's it! to stream it through discord select "start virtual camera"

image

and then you can stream it through discord as if you were using a webcam!

i like to make scenes with images i find online, like the bar, or the arcade, just mash some stuff together until you make a cool environment.

have fun!!
