I think the dumbest way I ever saw someone get caught making undisclosed use of generative AI was an artist who posted censored art with uncensored versions on their Patreon, but the uncensored versions had subtly different composition, and it turned out that they weren't generating the images, then manually censoring the dicks – they were prompting for images with the dicks already pixelated, then separately feeding in the same prompt without specifying that the dick should be pixelated, and whatever AI they were using couldn't reliably reproduce the same image twice.

I'm willing to cede on the issue of "IP "theft" since that's not something most people need to concern themselves over regardless of their career, but labour theft? Wage theft? JOB THEFT? These are all pressing concerns for any worker alive today whose job involves a computer in any way because of AI. These aren't issues that will be resolved by copyright law, but the working class is being robbed of job opportunities and careers themselves by unregulated AI being pushed by companies who seek to displace and replace labour itself from as much economic production as possible.

I’ve been saying for years that the problem with AI isn’t the technology, it’s capitalism. I haven’t indicated anywhere that I don’t think that AI should be regulated or that AI should be used to replace workers. But you have to recognize that AI didn’t need to come onto the scene for the capital owning class to fuck over laborers; productive capacity and real wages have been decoupled for decades and we’ve been enduring a culture of layoffs-for-profit since the eighties.

But if we’re talking about the worst thing to come out of the last ten years in terms of harming labor, I think that the technological facilitation of gig work blows AI out of the water.

The AI isn’t stealing your wages or eliminating your jobs, CAPITAL is doing that. And the solution to that isn’t to act like AI is totally useless or is a moral contaminant, the solution to that is to seize the means of production.

(of course i’m joking about that.)

(unless…)

This is a labor issue, not a tech issue, and it is *so goddamned annoying* that people seem more annoyed at Elon Musk for Grok than they do about him trying to *DISMANTLE THE FUCKING DEPARTMENT OF LABOR*

I will point out that AI as a labor issue is addressed pretty comprehensively in the Doctorow article that I linked; check out the “AI can’t do your job” section of the essay.

January 19 2019 - A gang of Neonazi boneheads pick a fight with a group of punks of color during a concert by Reagan Youth. Apparently one of them, wearing a Skrewdriver shirt, had earlier given a Nazi salute and yelled “Orange County is a white town!”. Obviously, this didn’t sit well with not just the group of punks they harassed, but many of the other punks at the show too, who come running to kick their Nazi asses. NAZI PUNKS FUCK OFF!

Click the video link to watch a punk song performed the way all punk songs should be performed: while a bunch of nazi fucks get their shit kicked in on stage. [video]

Bonus gif of the crowd joining in to chase the fuckers off:

Nazi Punk is an oxymoron. Inherently contradictory. You CANNOT be Punk if you are a goddamn neo-Nazi sacksplash. Real Punks punch Nazis. Period.

kropotkindersurprise

you can actually easily be a Nazi Punk. All you have to do is listen to punk music and be a right-wing piece of shit, that’s how easy it is to be a nazi punk. If Nazi punks didn’t exist there wouldn’t be a song called “Nazi Punks Fuck off!”

The only reason punk is seen as a leftist subculture is because leftist punks have consistently fought against right-wingers trying to take over the scene.

Punk being antifascist is an on-going battle, not just something inherent to punk, and the same with any other subculture! you have to actively fight to keep the fascists out, you can’t just congratulate yourselves that your group is inherently all good guys.

I keep meeting artists who complain that Tumblr Is Dead then when I check their blog they've made four posts in six months and all of them were self promo lmao. Influencers whining that "tumblr is useless for engagement" tells me every part of the problem, like sorry you can't just show up and farm this userbase for clicks by waving buzzwords around the way you can on tiktok. This is the Excited About Stupid Things website reblog some shitty fanart or die

Bringing back this ancient post because I would like to add that I think another reason people have trouble connecting with others on here is that nobody even glances at their new followers' pages or checks out the regulars who DO show up in their notifications. You should be checking for bots anyway but like you could already have cool creators hanging around you and you don't even know it because you log in to drop your posts and immediately leave, you have to Live Here dude. Meet the neighbors.

I'm obsessed with the Bath & Body Works subreddit because there's only three types of posts and it's:

1.) Women in their fifties having the epiphany that capitalism and/or marketing is evil, but like. They don't realize that that's how capitalism and marketing as a whole are designed to work; they think that this is a unique type of evil that Bath & Body Works has invented. They'll be like, "It's sick and twisted that they just keep releasing new products that are inferior quality versions of their old products with a different label and then making them seasonal items so that people feel pressured to buy them before they can really think about it because they're worried they'll miss out!!! This should be illegal!!!" You're telling me, girl. You're gonna be soooooo mad when you find out about. The whole world.

2.) Level 1-2 Hoarders in denial showing off their collections of hundreds of candles and body sprays and lotions and then frothing at the mouth in the comments section when people offer support resources for hoarding and shopping addictions.

3.) The world's most iconic autistic women with a vintage Bath & Body Works special interest who don't realize they're autistic women with a vintage Bath & Body Works special interest trying to convince themselves that the lotion they thrifted from Goodwill that expired in 2002 isn't rancid, it's "macerated".

c3rvida3

Actually, making this rebloggable only to add that there's a fourth type of post which is people posting pictures of horrifying fires that their candles caused and being like, "This is the sixth time my candle has almost cost me my home. What should I do? I am NOT going to get rid of it. It's a discontinued scent," and everybody being like, "Oh my god??? I LOVE that one, do NOT throw it away. Just get a candle warmer."

"Friends outside of Minnesota please read. I'm sharing a post written by a personal friend and medical doctor:
Friends outside MN, you need to know what is happening here. Everyone knows that ICE shot and killed a woman here on Wednesday. But that’s not the only thing that’s going on:

  • ICE agents are cruising areas with immigrant-owned businesses, and kidnapping patrons and employees alike. Yesterday they abducted two US citizen employees at a suburban Target, one who was begging them to allow him to go get his passport to show them.
  • ICE is going door to door in immigrant-heavy neighborhoods, asking residents where their immigrant neighbors live. Read that again. If it sounds like something out of your high school history textbook, that’s because it is.
  • ICE is targeting schools and school buses. They pepper sprayed teenagers and abducted two school staff members at the high school up the street from me on Wednesday. Police are literally escorting school buses to ensure children can get to school and home safely. The Minneapolis Public Schools have moved to virtual learning for the next 4 weeks because it’s unsafe for children or teachers to physically come to school.
  • They are targeting hospitals and clinics. Patients are scared and are cancelling their appointments or just not showing up. Kids are missing their checkups and vaccines, folks aren’t getting their cancer care, etc.
  • They are smashing windows in cars and homes.
  • ICE is increasingly picking up Native Americans—again, targeting folks based on skin color alone.
  • They are arresting and beating legal observers. A friend of a friend had her arm broken yesterday. Folks are showing up at local hospitals, brought in in ICE custody, with severe injuries that are absolutely inconsistent with mechanism of injury reported by ICE. (Think: patient appears to have been beaten unconscious, while ICE agent says he slipped and fell.)
I can’t emphasize enough that these ICE agents do not have warrants. There are 2,000+ agents here and they are simply hunting for anyone that’s not white. It doesn’t matter if you’re a citizen or a green card holder, they will kidnap you first and ask questions later.

But the community is fighting back.
  • Protests are happening every day.
  • Community groups have been leading know-your-rights sessions for months, often to packed venues.
  • Whistles are being distributed by the thousands, carried on keychains and worn on coat zippers, always at the ready to be blown in warning if ICE is spotted.
  • Drivers are following ICE vehicles, blaring their horns in warning.
  • Businesses are locking their doors even while open to keep employees and customers safe. As I type this, I’m standing guard at the locked door of our neighborhood burrito joint while I wait for my takeout order, so the employees can focus on their jobs. The place is packed with neighbors supporting this small business.
  • Anti-ICE signs are posted everywhere. The community is making it crystal clear that ICE is not welcome here.
  • Parents and neighbors are standing guard outside schools, organizing carpools, and escorting kids to and from school on foot.
  • Parents of kids in Spanish-immersion daycare (there are a LOT of these daycares here!) are keeping their kids home so the teachers don’t have to take the risk of coming to work.
  • Churches and community groups are holding fundraisers to buy and deliver groceries to families who don’t feel safe leaving home.
  • Mutual aid money is going out to folks who can’t make rent because they can’t work or because a breadwinner was abducted, or who need a warm place to stay after their home’s windows were smashed.

THAT is what is happening here. This fight is ongoing and it’s horrifying to watch. But we are not backing down. To my friends in other cities and states, don’t think for a minute that this won’t happen in your town. It will. Be ready. Learn from us, as we have learned from Portland and Chicago and New York. Fight back. Don’t let us get to the last line of Martin Niemoller’s poem.”
