Rook is still uncertain if she met the real Solas, the genius behind her one-of-a-kind neural implant, less so that he’s still alive and trapped in someone’s basement. As she follows her curiosity to Manny’s shard containing information about this ‘Lighthouse’, she finds evidence that her family is a lot more tangled in the Dr3ddW0lf’s shenanigans than she expected.

Solas is also determined to trace the operations of his old enemies, the Evanuris, through the discarded data he has collected over the decades, noticing a glaring gap of information starting from the year 2069. Just as he is about to throw himself into finding a way to communicate his findings back to Rook, something lurks in the Old Net wastelands that he can’t ignore.

Actually not a lot of stuff but I’m slowly getting back into it. Decided to be social IRL and put all my work, fan or otherwise, aside. Ugh, I’m so behind.

Rook dives right back into Arlathan, nervous to encounter the Dread Wolf now that she knows someone else might be puppetting the braindance from afar. She is still determined to find out more about its unique programming for Judy’s sake, but is shocked to find it is none other than Solas himself taking control of his Dr3ddW0lf virus.
Though Rook doubts it, Solas assures her that he is the real deal, and implores that they work together once it’s made clear as to why their connection is so strong. What begins as a heated exchange of barbs eventually turns hotter when everything about their environment spurs round two of their previous encounter.

While Rook visits the Columbarium for a bit of quiet to consider her options, Solas and Cole rescue a group of distressed AI trying to break through the Blackwall. While he works hard to sooth and clear them of daemons, the most volatile victim triggers another haunting memory of his. He remembers how he was so severely mutilated at the hands of the ambitious and cruel Dr Ghilan'nain.
As he paints to restabilise his mind, the howl of Dr3ddW0lf calls him back to the Blackwall to the woman he can’t seem to avoid.

Chapter 8: They’re After Me
Rook is granted the night off after dealing with Elgar'nan. She and some of the staff at Lizzie’s toast to mourn the friends they lost as the NCPD clear away the bodies. Just as the bar opens up for the night, one cop isn’t satisfied with the investigation and shows up at their door, asking for her by name.
Meanwhile, Solas marches into the wastelands of the Old Net, and thumbs through his collection of recovered data, preparing every option he can to convince Rook to join his cause.

Rook hacks into Lizzie’s system to snoop on a meeting between the Mox leader Susie Q and the mysterious Arasaka executive, Sir Elgar'nan. As she eavesdrops on their business, she gets a taste of the kind of power he has, the kind that triggers one of the girls into cyberpsychosis. Locked in a battle on the rooftop for survival between Mox and Arasaka, Rook needs to dip into her mercenary skills to fend off this threat, but Elgar'nan’s terrifying netrunning abilities are leagues above her own. She’ll have to uncover more about this man and what his deal is, even if it means pledging herself to him.

Running low on eddies, pills, and second chances, Rook drags her sorry butt to Lizzie’s Bar, the headquarters of the Mox gang that she used to run with. She reaches out to Judy, and lets her in on the tech behind the Dr3ddw0lf wreath with the hope of uncovering its secrets in exchange for a place to sleep. What they find confuses them both.
Solas catches up with an old friend over a game of cards, though Varric’s answers to his questions are just vague repetitions of what he had said in life. What he manages to decipher gives him an idea on how to reach out to Rook and convince her to help him.

Cole tells him that among the dwellers of their sanctuary, there is an engram that knew her well in life.
Meanwhile, Rook walks the streets of Night City pondering her next steps. She recalls her last good talk with her Uncle Varric before she ruined everything, and finds herself in front of Misty’s Esoterica.

What was supposed to be a routine hack turns into a feverish encounter that reminds Solas what it’s like to be alive. It’s not long before the dream breaks away and he is forced to wake up to a horrifying truth.

With her rep in the gutter and no one in the Afterlife giving her the time of day, Rook has been in a slump, taking whatever gigs she can, with only enough eddies to afford rent, maybe a puff of glitter and a braindance or two to numb the loneliness. She becomes particularly attached to ones that feature a long-dead netrunner known only as DR3DDW0LF.
But these BDs are strange, the script changes each time, the emotions are way too real, and she swears the DR3DDW0LF has a message for her from beyond the grave. But maybe that’s just the glitter talking…

This was so damn fun put together. These games have consumed my life and I hope fans of both enjoy this as much as I did writing this.
