Please tell me that this has already been done in the Ferdibert community. It is much funnier in my head, & I need to work on male anatomy. 😅

Series: Part 1 of Job Interview
Summary:
Hubert explains their consideration. “Our search required to have someone well acquainted with children, coming from an acceptable family relationship. Our observations of your interactions with your nieces and nephews revealed you are well loved by them, yet you maintain your position as a person of authority. As attentive as you are with them, we can only surmise you would be as involved if not more with your own children.”
“I found my visit with you caring for your nieces enthralling. You always knew what each of them was doing at any time. You doted upon them yet were not overbearing. It was a sight to behold.” Ferdinand muses.
“Your work ethic is exemplary. You also care about those who you work with as well as your friends. Bernadetta gave a shining review of your embroidery and other handiwork talents. What I have seen of your cooking is very acceptable. You are neat and orderly, organized in your office. You present yourself well in public, dressing appropriately for the occasions.” Hubert recites as if he is recalling a checklist of his requirements.

Summary:
Hubert asks one of his employees, Manny, who works for the Empire decoding and translating secret messages from his spies, if she would be interested in a new line of work. He refuses to tell her the name of the position or anything about it until he is certain that she is fully qualified for the position and meets his intrusive requirements.
Manny has no idea what she could be getting herself into, neither does Hubert.
Ida has a special gift for the man of the day (week)
A Gift
Ida wakes Felix early this morning. “Today you are going to spar with Rodrigue and have an honest conversation.”
Felix frowns. “Do I have to?”
“Yes.” She says as she kisses him sweetly. He grumbles as he puts his feet on the cold floor, heading to the fireplace to put on a fresh log.
They go downstairs to breakfast together. Ida announces that Felix is going to spar with Rodrigue today. Felix responds by shoveling his breakfast into his mouth as quickly as possible, then heads outside to the training grounds.
Rodrigue is surprised and shocked at the announcement. Ida tells him that this is a special gift. He is not supposed to talk during the spar. Don’t ask how. Don’t ask why, just go with it. Ida will be the umpire. After breakfast Rodrigue changes clothing and heads out to the training grounds. Felix and Ida are already there.
“Let him warm up, Felix.” Ida smiles at him warmly.
“Okay.” He nods, frowning.
Rodrigue takes a training lance, warming up his muscles and stretching. When he is ready Ida acts as referee, at her signal they begin to spar.
Wooden lance and sword clash repeatedly as the fight begins. It has been many years since Rodrigue has sparred with his own son and he is quite impressed by his skills.
“Do you hate Rodrigue?” Ida asks Felix.
Felix falters and jumps back a safe distance. “No, I don’t hate him. He makes me angry. He says things to me without thinking them through.”
Felix takes advantage of Rodrigue pausing and looking at him with his weapon down. Felix sends a flurry of attacks that he has trouble blocking, a few hit home.
The sparring continues. They stand close to each other, weapons wrapped into each other’s. Rodrigue has Felix’s sword hand grasped in his as his lance is crossed in front of it, preventing Felix from using his weapon. Felix takes the opportunity to punch his opponent in the kidney repeatedly causing Rodrigue to release his grip and they push apart.
“That was a cheap shot.” Rodrigue grumbles.
“Do you think your opponent would not do that? Of course they would. We’re fighting!” Felix snarls back.
Ida gives Rodrigue a frown and shakes her head, pinching her lips shut.
The fighting resumes. Wood smacking against wood is the only sound beyond the two males grunting and swinging their weapons.
Ida seizes the opportunity, “Felix, do you love your father.”
Felix groans. The words fall from his mouth whether he wants them to or not. “Yes. I wish he would get his priorities in order. Dying for Dimitri is not his job. He is the shield, not the martyr. The subject of knighthood makes me sick. I am still angry about what he said about Glenn. But, I do love him.”
Rodrigue stands still, shocked. How is she getting him to say this?
Felix takes the opportunity and strikes his father hard on his right shoulder, enough to cause him to fall on the ground.
“Am I done?” Felix grimaces and turns away, hiding his blush from them
“No.” Ida answers, healing Rodrigue briefly.
They continue to fight. The next round, Rodrigue trips Felix, sending him
sprawling as the tip of the lance comes to Felix throat. He wins the round. They
continue until the spar is over. Felix wins the three of five rounds.
“I could have done better had this been a regular fight. I was distracted by the questions.” Felix drops his wooden sword and heads out of the building.
Rodrigue sits on a bench across from Ida. “I don’t know how you did this. It…it’s amazing.” He gasps.
“Happy birthday.” Ida smiles. Hopefully this will bring a bit of healing between them.
The frosts of Red Wolf Moon become more frequent, blanketing the lands with a bright white shimmer that slowly melts in the sunlight. Toward the end of the month the skies will grow more overcast as winter dares to creep over the land, threatening to cover everything in deep blankets of snow. Frost also means it is time to harvest the cabbages. A harvest means there is an excuse to have another festival.
Rodrigue is thrilled by the correspondence received from his younger brother, Frederic. Ghonshockl is expected to have an amazing harvest this year and the festivities are expected to be a marvel. It has been quite some time since he has seen his brother, this is a fantastic opportunity to get together before the winter snows force everyone to stay home until spring’s thaw.
Ida practically hangs on to the edge of the window of the carriage. She has not had the opportunity to see much of Fraldarius territory, so this is an adventure for her. They’ve been riding for a few hours. Felix sits beside her, his arms crossed, trying to get in a nap if the bumpy roads will allow it. Rodrigue fills the time by sharing stories and a bit of history of the family.
This short features Ida, a recent original character whose magic comes through singing. She can also never tell a lie.
Placing her teacup delicately back onto the saucer, Ida sighs happily as she enjoys a bit of afternoon respite with one Duke Rodrigue Fraldarius in his drawing room inside the manor. The son of the duke is obviously absent, probably swinging his sword at dummies in the training grounds or random trees in whatever area he heads to when he wishes to hide from his father.
“When we were in Charon, I had been to a dressmaker and could not find any of the cloth in the beautiful teal blue that Felix and you wear. Is there something special about it?”
A huge smile covers the face of the Duke as he launches into a two hour long monologue about the creation and rarity of Fraldarius Teal. He explains the history of the color, how plants only found in Fraldarius territory, specific bark from trees and the greenery of a distant relative of the woad plant are prepared and cooked down to a fine powder, then the process continues with a special orange salt and minerals that finally creates the dye. It takes six months from start to finish to create enough of the dye for one bolt of cloth. They have used this color for House Fraldarius for nearly one thousand years.
“Oh.” Ida says blankly. “I thought you might use magic.” She reaches out to rub her fingers on the bottom edge of the Duke’s beautiful cape.
“No.” Rodrigue sternly shakes his head, “There is no magic that…” He stops abruptly as Ida leaps to her feet
Ida sings a quick song, ending with a spin. Her long royal blue skirt is furled out around her legs, suddenly changing to Fraldarius Teal. She smiles and curtseys to him.
Rodrigue stands, closes, then locks the door. “My dear, we must have a conversation.” Rodrigues eyes bore into Ida fiercely.
A toast.
First. This story is written from the point of view of my original character, Belle. If you haven’t read my stories, you wont understand the ending much. She’s a cyborg sent to fix the past. At this point in her story, Rodrigue is aware of her special modifications at this point in the story.
A Toast for the Greatest Host
The icy wind of the north blows hard against the windows of the Fraldarius Estate. Snow drifts are piled higher than Sylvain’s horse, making it difficult for travel. Only those in Faerghus from these areas know how to make it through the mountains of snow piled everywhere. They planted tall wide evergreen trees to make snowbreaks along the entry road to buildings, forcing the snow to collect on areas not required for travel.
Belle is thrilled that the manor is well constructed, the winds do not find many small cracks to allow the cold of winter inside. The doors to all of the rooms are kept shut, keeping the heat where it is needed the most, fireplaces filled with roaring fires and blankets scattered on the furniture to keep those that are not accustomed to the colder weather a bit more comfortable.
