Xi’an, China-born and Toronto, Canada-based Ciel is renowned as one of the most innovative artists in electronic music. Her acclaimed discography of solo and collaborative releases on prestige labels (!K7, NAFF, Peach Discs, etc) includes her 2023 debut LP Homesick, which she toured live internationally in 2024. Celebrated for her adventurous, protean DJing style, Ciel has played venues including fabric, Robert Johnson, Smartbar, Berghain Panorama Bar and Nowadays, and at beloved festivals such as Draaimolen, Dimensions and MUTEK. She's also an outspoken advocate for equity and social justice in electronic music, values that are inextricable from her work as a producer, DJ, label boss (Parallel Minds) and radio host (Rinse FM).

“My approach for this was very honest and personal. I thought about the styles of electronic music that particularly resonate with me, made a list of all the artists in Toronto who make music in those genres, and started reaching out to people.


My taste is very much a product of my being from Toronto and continuing being based here. It's a diverse community of artists from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds, and the music very much reflects that melting pot dynamic. I also very much wanted to give a chance to artists who have long been active in the scene as a DJ / producer / promoter / booker / record store staffer but for a multitude of reasons, have yet to break the international circuit. As such, the tracklist is lacking in the bigger names that have broken out of this scene and is instead full of artists that are familiar in Toronto but unknown to the larger international community.

Because of my work as the label co-founder and A&R person for Parallel Minds, I also reached out to artists that are affiliated with the label. It was important to me that the release really reflects the scene but also reflects me and the kind of music that speaks to me. So you won't find much in the way of gabber or business techno here, but if you're looking for groovy, deep, and psychedelic music of all styles, you will definitely find them here.” - Ciel 2025
