star trek is great bc it scratches the two otherwise opposite itches of found family going out having adventures together and found family living together in one big house

falloutnewvegastransedmygender:
how is it 2024 next week. that’s not even a real year that’s a caption on an establishing shot in a sci-fi story.
Star Trek writers in 1994 writing about a dystopian future 30 years later somehow extremely optimistic about the US switching to metric.

That’s just how it goes

Tendi & Rutherford | STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS
[Image Description: A gifset depicting a scene from Star Trek: Lower Decks. Ensigns Tendi and Rutherford are sitting on the floor next to an ops panel that they are working on. As they speak, they each empty out duffel bags of T-88 tools. The dialogue goes as follows:
Tendi: I got you something.
Rutherford: You shouldn’t have!
Tendi: Well, I figured the Cerritos could use them a lot more than–
Rutherford: No, no, no! I mean, look, I stole a bunch, too!
Tendi: Yup, this… this is why we’re friends.]

The sexual tension between the chief engineer and the warp core tho
No no no NO! The Spaceship Engineer Manual has highlighted this regulation for a reason! Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT try to get dirty with the warp core! Not only you will hurt yourself but might potentially put your whole ship in danger too! It’s also incredibly rude for the next shift engineers to have to see your bodily fluids if you forget wipe that off. Believe me, we had several incidents of Chief Engineers getting too attached to the warp cores, there were accidents. There is a reason for those regulations.
