I am considering buying this manga, been sitting on my Amazon shopping list for a few days... but haven't decided to invest all that money yet, I been reading a ton of reviews, and it seems the consensus is that the manga never really develops Hina as a person (she is the same in the end as in Ch1) and that her past is never explored and just remains a mystery even by the end? Without any spoilers, is there any truth to this? Learning more about Hina`s past is what got me interested into buying the manga after watching the anime, so it would be a total deal breaker for me if they never expand on it (specially cause the anime kinda ended without really telling us much about the "new" character that knew Hina`s past).

The manga is very funny in my opinion so I’d say it’s still worth reading it all. It’s somewhat true that they never really go that deep into Hina’s past, but they do get into why there are psychokinetic girls in the future. Hina never really develops as a character but her friends around her certainly do.

while its true they only show just a little bit of her past without going into much detail, I'd say it's worth reading either way. since hinamatsuri is the funniest manga I ever read. Not reading it for a small reason like that would be a shame as you'd be missing out on everything else it has to offer

Read what's written before posting, he said he is considering buying it, not just reading it, there is a difference.

I say Hinamatsuri is worth reading but it's not good enough for buying.

@JoeChip Exactly, I could just go ahead and pirate it like most people, but I stopped doing that personally.. I notice when I actually own the manga, its a totally different experience than just binging it on some piracy site (ex: I take my time reading it, and I tend to retain the story better and value it more with physical books). Anyways.. you said it wasn't worth owning but ultimately I decided to buy it, I did enjoy the anime and lots of replies/reviews etc etc that I read say that the manga version is even better.. hopefully its true otherwise I just spent 300$ for nothing lol

The thing is Hinamatsuri is good as long as the yakuza guy and Hina are focus characters unfortunately it later runs off steam when it drifts off to focuing on other characters expecially the minion Mary Sue character lsoes her charm and stops beişng funny quickly and a lot of chapters are dedicated to her

It most definitely develops Hina as a character, she grows and matures quite allt from since we first meet her in the beginning. It does touch on her past, but the focus is on the present. You should totally read it though.

The hell are some of the replies in here? All of the nineteen Hinamatsuri volumes are absolutely worth buying.

And yes, later on the comic delves a little into Hina's past.

So update, I did end up buying it, and just finished reading it. I am so glad I asked for a second opinion, the anime skipped alot of stuff, and the manga does go into her backstory and Hina definitely changes... so yeah all those ppl saying otherwise were absolutely lying. I do see myself re-reading this manga in a few years, and even if I dont, I do think it was worth the purchase.

One small complaint is that some chapters felt out of order, for example in one chapter character X gets mad at character Y, but then few chapters later they are in a meeting acting like everything is cool, but then few chapters later they go back to remembering they are mad at each other?

And then, the manga just kinda ends? But its not a big deal, the manga was fun enough.

The car chase in the last volume is probably my favorite scene lol would love to see that animated someday.

''Character X gets mad at character Y'' you say? As in stuff like Nitta remembering a few episodes later that his group tried to give him a Tokyo Bay (live) sea burial?

And as for the ending, I think ending the series after the concert was the right call.
