It seems at school, Lucy is the only person Charlie he can trust. I mean, yeah's not human so he's not treated equally as others.

Elsewhere, this anime has terrorist organizations and one of them is already on the move. Seems for now, Charlie is just adapting to school life as normal as possible. Definitely felt bad that he's been treated like this just because of what he is.

It's heavy handed, but the plot is still one of the most interesting this season.

Best sci-fi anime of this season, not that this season has many sci-fi anime in the first place, but I feel like I've to give this anime some achievements.

Sheesh did not expect that poor girl to get blown up by the ALA.

I seriously like Lucy she seems like the only person who treats Charlie like a friend. Although it seems like this Max guy might pull Charlie and Lucy into some real trouble soon.

The monkey has a phone!

The ALA vegan terrorists are committing some atrocities here, along with some more "I am silly" from the lunchtime jackasses. Lucy's cool, always on her guard and looking out for Charlie. Charlie's adoptive parents also seem really supportive. Interesting hooks with Charlie's mother and the swimming pool incident. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.

What's even the point sending "humanzee" to school? It's not like he'll get a job somewhere. And chimpanzee lifespan is 30y so he's halfway there(animal hybrids usually have even shorter lifespan). And chimpanzee are omnivores so why is this one vegan? xD Not to mention chimpanzees eats other primates.
Not sure if this is super woke anime or woke parody.

@madoy Later they hint that his mother

I liked that they didn't omit the opening scene where the daughter loses her life; I thought there would be censorship, but it's just been rearranged. Judging by the titles, it seems they're adapting up to chapters 22-23 of the manga, so there will be MANY surprises. For now, the only thing they're censoring, for obvious reasons, are the actual logos, like this one:

Still interesting to watch, but there's no good narrative flow imo. It feels more like going from checkpoint to checkpoint on a list of scenes that have to be there, rather than following a story that naturally evolves. Also I'm watching the German dub and while the voices are good, it's not lip-synchronous, kinda cheap.

I'm still not sure what to make of this ALA, the terrorist vegan group, lol. The anime hasn't painted vegans as a whole as bad people, so I don't think there's an anti-vegan agenda, but I'm sure it won't help the anime, since it's just too hilarious.
If you haven't watched "Fantastic Children", don't talk about "best anime". Thank you.

@OziDB LOL. WHY would Lucy wear that? That's just dumb, lol. Actual good censorship for once.

Not much happened this episode but it's clearly building up, the way the antagonist organization is being shown in this story still annoys me, don't get me wrong i hate vegans too but the animal liberation alliance sounds more and more like a retarded group of anti-carnivore dimwits without a concrete ideology. More stuff revealed about Charlie is a great thing, Lucy is still meh but i guess she's okay, looking forward to learning more about that incident where he beat up the guards supposedly.

Interesting first two episodes. Really makes you thinks at times.

Especially with the convo charlie had at the cafeteria with "all lives matter". Straight to the point and then even stated his point further.

I am liking Charlie and lucys bonding moments too. Especially lucys pov of him & trying to understand him little by little.

Also interesting parallel of him saving the "prey" butterfly this time from the hunter while he had to watch the bird get eaten by the start.

Then we have vegan terrorists bombing the meat eating places and even though they have little bit of morale i guess the leader doesnt give two shits about anything as long as their goal is being fulfilled. "Take that meat eaters" i guess

Decent 2nd episode.

Also can i say i love the ED. Its such a nice litte vibe, cant help my but bop my head to it. (Also bonus feet shot at the end cant complain)

I never expected that ridiculous “we can’t say Merry Christmas anymore” crap to somehow find itself in an anime 😂😂😭😭
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

Take me back to the days before MAL became infested with Twitter's favorite buzzwords.

I did like this episode a lot more than the first one. Blowing up that little girl is quite something to start an episode with.

Good ep

RIP to the little girl, ALA is insane for that.

Darwin quick with the comebacks 😤

Lucy a real one.

Love the parents and their support.

Definitely wonder if Darwin's bio mom can speak english, maybe not. Tho, let's see what happens next ep.

8.5/10

Ozzy bullies Charlie and like last time, Charlie doesn't give the expected answer.

ALA stalking him.
Charlie's mother is still alive! She didn't die during childbirth despite what looked like heavy blood loss.

Damn, it seems like it's one of those shows where all the absolute npc side characters fit a cartoonish trope and have zero fucking common sense and logic. This is so fucking sad.

the students are retarded, the cops are retarded, the mom is kinda retarded... all for the sake of manufactured complexity and conflict. Down to a generous 6 this episode, in expectation of an ever more improbable upturn.

if they stuck with the actual story itself instead of injecting a bunch of whataboutism heavy handed dialogue and beat-em-up characters this would be a lot better of a series. otherwise this was an interesting episode, just can't stomach the heavy handed cringe dialogue sometimes

I knew it wouldn't be censored but *that* scene looked even more violent than in its manga form imo. Great stuff

Also we could actually see a visual improvement on this 2nd episode, no more art falling apart when the camera gets further away a bit. All in all a very encouraging 2nd ep

I love the portrayal of your average american school cafeteria debates, a bunch of MAGAtards and a chad monkey Charlie debating veganism and their taste for some "human" dishes lol.

This show does feel like your average Adult Swim anime production, with high lows (inconsistent art and animation) and higher highs (characters and story so far). Nice thriller.

Getting real mixed messaging so far.
I guess that's just the byproduct of the glorified gated-community of Japan thinking they know at all the nuances of American politics and culture.
I'm sure everyone on the left and on the right who completely lack any self-awareness will just see what they want to see and eat it up.
Then again, maybe that's what the author is going for...
At least the OP is a banger, and Charlie is a fairly interesting character.

I feel like this is harsh. But it’s def my worry too. The characters and their beliefs lack any real nuance and are kinda flat. My hope is that, that will change because the plot is pretty interesting.

I feel like vegan terrorism is so heavy handed lol… like veganism is not that polarizing of an issue for it to be the thing that’s driving the plot. It stands *just* at the edge of plausibility. Not quite ridiculous enough to make me stop watching but enough to make me raise an eyebrow and sigh a little lol.

This show definitely feels like one written by someone who has an image of America but hasn’t spent a lot of time here.

Ngl, this show is low-key peak. I love the themes and the philosophical depth slaps hard. Charlie is so based and he just keeps spittin'. I've gotta get back to the manga someday.
