Is it worth it to watch dozens of episodes until an anime "gets good"?

Back in 2013 I watched a couple episodes of Shingeki no Kyojin, read the entire manga, thought "WTF, nothing happens in this shit" and then dropped it.
Many years later, people posted scenes on Marley, from Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season, so while I never finished season 1, I watched everything mainline from season 2 onwards, plus a couple OVAs.

There's something similar now: I dropped Fumetsu no Anata e in 2021 after 12 episodes because I thought it was too repetitive and predictable in structure. Well, same thing now: People posted images of Fumetsu no Anata e Season 3 and it seems interesting. Should I watch it?

I have never heard of anybody waiting for that show to get good. Reviews all say episode 1 is the best.

Obviously not, I will totally drop shows with <1 episode watched.

It's true that in some cases good writing (so I'm not talking about AoT or Fumetsu no Anata e) becomes evident only after a while. "A while" means a few episodes, not 50.

I think I have enough patience for maybe 5 episodes. If it's not interesting by then, I will drop the anime immediately.

Only if you want to watch it, it's never good to force yourself on something you don't like, Attack on Titan was good right from the first episode, tho, one of all time top first episodes if not literally the best.

Yes it's pointless, better just drop it and move on to the next thing.

No anime takes dozens of episodes to get good.

Honestly no. The first episode can speak to the quality. Following the rule of three is only useful for seeing patterns.

If anime and manga are your non-work way to restore energy or find meaning, that's frankly sad. There're many other activities that make you better and human.

@Saku_k As I heard One Piece takes anywhere from 200-500 to get good.

12 EP series you need minimum 3 episodes often things speed up around 5th to 7th. 24 and up series you often need 8 to 12 episodes before things get going but you usually know if you like it by 5th or 6th. Any longer and I do not think it is worth the time so much for me personally.

It can be. Sometimes your assumptions based on the first episode can be misleading. When I was watching Guilty Crown I figured it would be a clone of Blood Blockade Battlefront or a similar urban action show - but the story took a lot of turns I wasn't expecting, and had surprisingly in-depth symbolism behind it (not just talking about the soul weapons being based on the character's personality).

No I'll drop stuff before finishing the first episode if it's obviously dumb.
