An excellent story that really feels rushed at the end. I LOVED it, but the ending is a bit unsatisfying for the himejoshi that I am.. Nonetheless, this is an excellent read!
Kazuki is the ignorant rich brat that thinks the world of her family and the changes they are bringing to the island she lives on. What makes her such a great character is how she grows and changes as she interacts with Moeka and the world outside of her own. She continues to be headstrong, caring, and passionate about her father's work and efforts, but the removal of ignorance makes her become an
...
incredible person. Moeka is not rich, clean, or as determined as Kazuki, but her experience of a harder life doesn't make her overly aggressive and unbearable. Her hard-knock life smashes into an idealistic Kazuki, bringing a change that is beautiful yet realistic. Both characters positively affect one another, and that growth is the focus of the story.
Stick in the mud Kazuki witnesses Moeka's openly affectionate kiss with her boyfriend, and their lives are changed forever. The clash of morals shakes Kazuki to the core, and that chaos gives her room to observe the world around her own. The story focuses on their developing relationship while showing Kazuki that not everything done with good intentions works out exactly as expected. They continue to grow closer in a messy and gray world, and its shocking when time flies by. My only gripe with the story is that I read the story for GL, and that expectation was met with a vague conclusion that could a romantic or platonic love.
9/10 I HIGHLY recommend reading this story, as it has a powerful message and a fantastic interaction between lovely characters and realistic world without a solution to its problems. I just wish the ending had a more clearly defined sense of love.

My feelings are mixed with this series. I had fun with it in moments, but the conclusion was unsatisfying--especially since the author says it was intended--and there are other series that do this premise better.
Itsuki is the precious boy made idiot by his first love. He is determined to do anything for his love, including acting like a playboy delinquent, but his nerves always stops him from taking the final steps needed to satisfy his love for Ririko. Ririko is the discipline committee done well. While she is a stickler for the rules, she is not a complete stick in the mud, and that one
...
aspect of her doesn't define her entire personality. Ririko is completely blind to Itsuki's feelings. That's where my favorite characters come in: his best friend, Kaede, and the love interest's best friend, Mao. Kaede is the protective and kind friend that can't help but come off as mean. This works well with Mao, the playful yet caring friend that wants to set the two main characters up. None of the characters are new or fresh, but they are done well.
The story is both enjoyable and underwhelming. Person falls in love with disciple committee head and acts out to get their attention, a premise done before and better. It was odd that this series even seems to reference Yankee-kun to Megane-chan in Ch. 7, a more famous version of this story. While the moment-to-moment writing is enjoyable, the conclusion comes quickly and brings with it a dissatisfaction that poisons the entire experience. It was so strong a feeling that I initially gave it a lower score in the moment. The tropes and plot is fun, but it lacks any real uniqueness.
7/10 I can't full-heartedly recommend it, as there are other manga that did this better and with a more satisfying and conclusive ending. I do think that if the characters and art pull you in, then it isn't bad to read.. Just prepare to not care for the ending beforehand.

This is an enjoyable slice of life covering the beginning of an office love story. While it isn't really special, what it does is done well. It scratches the itch for a cute and innocent love story without dragging it out.
Takaki is man that lacks confidence and makes up for it through effort, even if he doesn't realize it. The thought he gives towards the chocolates, his cooking, and so on shows how he is serious, especially when it comes to Aya. On the other hand, Aya seems incredibly serious but is down to earth and adorable. Their relationship with one another is precious, and
...
their personalities mesh incredibly well. It is somewhat strange they are the only real characters of note, but that's perfectly fine for this story.
The story is very simple, and it works well. Two people fall in love and express that love through the classic Valentine's chocolate and White Day response. What is more interesting to me is seeing the relationship continue beyond just this trope and into a very mature relationship full of love and care. It is sugar sweet, and its simplicity only magnify this.
8/10 I recommend this, especially as a short read. It won't change anyone's lives, but it scratches that mature yet sweet adult love itch without any drama or complexity that is not always welcome. Just know the conclusion is open but defined, leading some to feel its ending is sudden. I think it works well.

This was a wonderful story that went way too long and has a very sudden and unsatisfying conclusion, especially for a supernatural slice of life. I wish I liked it more, but it was 40 chapters too long.
The characters are what I enjoyed the most in the series, especially how they don't feel flat. Bambi is a complicated 18 year-old that really feels far older than he his. His complicated yet interesting thought process combined with his struggle with speaking his thoughts and feelings intrigued me throughout and made later moments far more interesting. He is kind to those he cares for and oblivious to
...
anyone else, but his love isn't binary. The spirit Ako-chan sees this during her time with him, yet she fights with feelings of guilt for bothering him and worry about how to benefit him. She has a strong personality at times but is very passive in others. I like her, but sometimes the line between complex character and indecisive author blurs too much. She is sweet and is her own person, but I don't think she would work well without Bambi at her side. Most of the other characters are well-written as well, but I do find Yamashiro being far less important than she should be, considering the story.
A writer struggling with creating a new story meets a mysterious spirit in his newly acquired haunted apartment. Ako's connection with Yamashiro is interesting, but I think a big flaw comes from this. The back and forth of their relationship and what will happen with Ako is interesting at first, but it becomes frustrating as the rhyme and reason is lost. One chapter will say one thing will happen, but then the exact opposite will be told the next chapter or so. The only thing worse than the indecisiveness of the author is how unnecessary the length of the story is. If 40 chapters were removed, I think the story would be far tighter and less dragged out. The conclusion doesn't help, as it is a jump in time measured in decades to wrap up the story without having to actually write a conclusion.
7/10 I enjoyed the story a lot, but that enjoyed lessened as time went on. Luckily, the side characters and stories kept things interesting enough. I recommend considering it, but the plot is slow and sometimes feels like it lacks progression... And a weak conclusion makes a whole-hearted recommendation impossible.

While the beginning is actually pretty hard to read and follow, by the end the experience and time makes this manga grow into something incredible. While I am not trans, I can enjoy this series and understand many hardships many characters faced. I love following characters for many years, and this story does it in an amazing manner.
Shuichi is a wonderful boy that realizes that he wants to be a girl. While she does have some stereotypical feminine qualities, she is also strong-willed and determined to find her way into being the woman she wants to be. She grows and has many hardships, but she
...
weathers through while caring for everyone around her. Takatsuki is a girl that wants to be a boy, and her personality shows that in many masculine traits. She is very still pretty sensitive as well, but she cares for her friends. It's difficult to write about these characters in full here, as they grow over the 6 1/2 or so years that the manga takes place. Many characters are introduced early, and time only continues to add more. Each character is flawed and interesting in their own ways, even if their conflicts don't directly connect to the main characters. Seeing them grow and change is truly fascinating.
While the writing is pretty tough to read early on, the story is phenomenal and worth pushing through. It is a great slice of life with a strong premise that I think many can relate to. Seeing each character tackle their own struggles with growing up alongside the more complicated issues that Shuichi and Takatsuki face keeps things interesting. There are times where conflicts and characters are frustrating, but it feels realistic to the character's ages and personalities. The scariest part for the characters is that many conflicts don't have answers. The weakest part to me is the passing of time being weird at times; there are even times where things happen out of panel that confused me. It's weird finding out something that the main character has been up to for month(s) alongside other characters, but I wouldn't call it bad writing persay.
9/10 I HIGHLY recommend those with interest or curiosity in the topics tackled in this slice of life give it a read... Just be prepared to push through HARD early on. It is worth it. The conclusion is wonderful, even if not everyone ends up where I expected/hoped they would.

After reading the comments, I was afraid to read this series, thinking I would hate it. In reality, I loved it! It is a woman learning of her sexuality and experiencing first love in an inconvenient time in her life.
Mitsuki is a lovely wedding planner that works her butt off to make all of her customers happy, but she can't seem to care about her own engagement in any capacity. She is head strong, knows what she wants, and does what she needs to as to achieve her goals. What she didn't expect was to have her entire life thrown into chaos by meeting Nanase.
...
Nanase is a free spirit that is getting married while in an open--which is not the same as a poly--relationship. She is excitable and free yet organized and open about herself. When she meets Mitsuki, everything is shaken to its core.
The story is a very wonderful one, but it can be divisive. It asks one of the scariest questions: what does one do when their understanding of love shatters after falling in love for the first time... at the worst possible time? There is conflict, but the drama is relatively soft for what happens. The fight for happiness is an enjoyable yet complicated mess, but it kept me intrigued the entire time. It.. shockingly didn't make me hate any of the characters either, to my surprise.
10/10 I HIGHLY recommend this series to anyone, especially those that can relate to Mitsuki's feelings of love. Perspective is important to this story as well as the detail in language use and facial expressions. I think the ending is perfect as well, so it's worth the ride.

If I had to describe this series, I would say it is the standard yuri series, perfect for someone new to the genre or manga in general. It doesn't take the world by storm; instead, it is a comfortable world that almost feels like coming home.
Honestly, the characters are pretty standard for a yuri series. Hana is the short cutie that secretly works for her hobbies. She isn't really notable besides her cuteness and her empathy. She (mostly) does an excellent job at being inoffensive in any way. Hina is the tall cool model that secretly loves cute stuff, another standard yuri manga lead character.
...
The entire school feels obsessed with her, so she is somewhat isolated from everyone except for Hana when it comes to what she wants to do. The other characters aren't really of note, though Hana's best friend is pretty decent.
The story is very standard: girl loves girl in a world where that's not considered normal, so the she has to carefully navigate her feelings and strive for happiness. There are details I like and story beats that are intriguing to a small degree, but there were 2 major issues I had. The first was towards the latter middle half where one avoids the other, something happens to the other girl, and the first girl is bothered that the other girl didn't tell her... This whole conflict and cause are pretty quickly forgotten when it shouldn't. The other issue is the final conflict... It was weak and forced, but the conclusion that comes from it was pretty awesome, so I forgive it.
8/10 It's the perfect starting point to get into GL, so I do recommend it! Just enjoy a predictable, simple, and angsty sweet story between two lovely high school girls. For veteran readers, it's like coming home after a long day out in the exciting world of work and adventure.

This is a great yuri story that hurts, burns, and warms the heart. I grittier look at business life of the time with a messy love story. It is worth the read, even if it isn't perfect.
There are many characters, and none of them are perfect people; I love it. Yukino is.. a mess, to put it mildly. She is a girl protected from reality because of her idol past that is forced into the cruel Tokyo streets at 18. The weight of her past crushes her, and her present is uncertain. She is moody, anxious, and easily manipulated with the right pressure and kindness;
...
the problem is everyone knows it. Setsuko is the cool aloof music composer that takes Yukino and guides her into her new life of lovely gay love. She works just as hard as she cares for Yukino. Setsuko is easily the best main character. The side characters vary and keep things interesting without being too unrealistic. The realistic characters is what really makes Octave such a wonderful yet flawed story. Maki is the best character.
The story is... messy in a good way. Nothing is clean, and anything that affects Yukino will continue to pop in her head throughout the story. Her flaws forces the story to go in some strange and frustrating directions, and it is some GOOD DRAMA. Drama saturates each page, pushing the reader to continue nonstop. For each moment of happiness, there is one of suspense, fear, and/or dread to follow. It is clear that this is Yukino's story, and the most memorable moments were when I was shouting at her for doing or saying something stupid.
8/10 I really recommend this to anyone looking for a rough and grody yuri story. There is very little fluff and a lot of sex (mostly between girls, but not all). I.. don't think I'll read it a second time though, as I related to Yukino's and (later on) Setsuko's struggles way too much.

Man, that was incredible! While Ikeda-sensei's previous work, Sasameki Koto, disappointed me overall, I was pleasantly surprised with this series. Such a good balance of an adult relationships, lives, and drama that really kept me bingeing until the end!
Characters really make this series as amazing as it is. The main couple, Wanko and Sakuma, are so adorable and wonderful to follow as they enjoy their lives and find where they want to go as time goes on. They aren't overly complex, but they aren't boring either. Wanko had some struggles in the past, both romantically and professionally, but she continues to push herself forward to
...
achieve her goals. Sakuma continues to be somewhat successful in her work while pushing herself to reach her larger dreams. The side characters are quite interesting and fun too, but they are also where most of the drama is... and it's a good thing! It keeps the main couple comfy and soft without letting the series become monotonous. Meeting other VAs, directors, and screenwriters through the MCs really gives a variety of characters to enjoy.
The story is fairly dry when it comes to the main characters, but the other characters make sure to prevent any boredom! Wanko struggles as a VA but finds comfort in her lovey-dovey home life with Sakumo, and that is where most of the main plot comes from. It has its ups and downs, but it is a nice progression. What people might find more interesting to discuss are the side characters. There is drama, unrequited love, romance, and more to be found. What is most notable here is the writing is well done! There are plots that are solved subtly, to the point some readers might even miss the conclusions! Not every side character has a conclusion to their story, but it makes the story feel more realistic. Remember, this is Wanko and Sakumo's story, not theirs. Just like reality, not everyone's story can be seen; people's lives continue out of view, or in this case panels.
10/10 I consider this a MUST READ when it comes to slice of life. While it is dry at times, there is enough story and character variety to keep things fresh and fun without muddling everything. With 104 chapters, it feels like the story was not enough yet still satisfying. The conclusion feels quick to some, but it feels just right to me... even if I would've loved another 100 chapters of this series.

I watched the anime of this series who knows how many years ago, to the point that I forgot many of the details before I read it, and I was wonderfully surprised! Such a beautiful yet heart wrenching love story of a person being true to themselves.
I found each character of the love triangle very interesting. Hazumu has the complex situation of unwillingly having a sex change, but she is more than that. She has hobbies, interests, and struggles that feel very relatable to me, as I am also very indecisive in almost any situation. Even then, she is headstrong and faces most conflicts head
...
on, unwavering until the very end. I also appreciate that her body changing didn't actually change her character, unlike most gender benders (especially ones that change their sexual and/or romantic preference). Yasuna is a fun parallel to Hazumu, as she also has to overcome complex issues of her heart and the inability to face conflict in the beginning. Watching her grow is pleasant, and her overcoming herself to bloom is beautiful. I still appreciate a tsundere like Tomari, especially when they are more intricate. She is strong, but she struggles internally far more than most. Nonetheless, her love for Hazumu pushes her to become even better than before.
The story is pretty simple with the premise being the focus. Hazumu has to adjust to her new situation, bringing in to question assumptions (Including the classic, "Can I even like girls now?") and finding herself with her mostly same surroundings. Love triangles can be fun or frustrating, and luckily this is the former moreso than the latter. The love doesn't ruin the events of the story, but it always has a lingering bitterness as the story moves forward.
10/10 I HIGHLY recommend everyone read this story, as both a lover of gender benders and yuri. The characters are interesting enough, and the premise, story, and conflicts can really pull readers in. The conclusion wasn't what I hoped for, but it was a great one nonetheless.
