This donghua is about a cultivation master who was on the precipice of attaining higher power when he got betrayed by his one and only friend. He reincarnated into a lowly apprentice of a destitute martial arts sect. The previous owner's last wish was that he'd protect the girl that he likes which gets imprinted onto the new owner.
The story is pretty much just about the MC being overpowered and getting stronger and stronger. He attains higher status, collects subordinates and strives to become the top martial artist. The side characters all have distinct personalities but don't have anything at all interesting to them
...
to write about. The MC is very straightforward, arrogant, driven, and always miraculously one step ahead.
The donghua is mostly about fight scenes. There is plenty of them and they're mostly entertaining to watch.
The animation is not great, but not bad either. Sound and music is very amateurish.
I had a decent amount of fun watching the first few episodes, after that it became incredibly tedious. There is just nothing interesting that happens. It failed at the hands of the short runtime, which is mostly used up by action scenes, whilst adding more and more characters into the mix without adding any depth to the existing ones. Very shallow and boring.

What a surprisingly good donghua.
I was ready to drop it at first. The animation is rather poor, the protagonist didn't grab me and overall it seemed pretty bad.
I persevered through the first few episodes and I got hooked.
The story begins with a young male cultivator who has, through self sacrifice over many years, finally cured the girl he was betrothed to. Only for her to immediately dump him because he's not good enough as she found someone else, more powerful, to marry. With his heart in shambles and in utter disbelief he is promptly ambushed by a relative of his now ex-fiancee and is
...
dealt a killing blow.
The killing blow didn't actually kill him though, but instead it awakened a sleeping power inside of him. A futuristic AI android girl but also an ancient dragon power.... It's a whole package.
This newfound power gives the main character the ability to learn very quickly, read minds and call upon ancient strength. He uses that power to fight against injustice against him and his clan. He smashes through any obstacle and keeps getting stronger and stronger.
The story is actually really interesting. It's not just another mindless action filled donghua with a predictable plot. It's very creative in the world building and always had me keen to see what's next.
The main character is a no-nonsense man who just wants to right every wrong he comes across, and he comes across a lot since everything seems to be fueled by vengeance and pride. The side characters are better than in most other donghuas, with plenty of screen time and development to get the viewer feel attached to them.
The animation is not great, at first it's pretty bad but it does get better over time. Some characters look downright creepy in an uncanny valley kind of way. I got used to it though. The fight scenes are decent, and again get better with time. It's like the animators got better and better at their job over the course of making the anime.
Music is pretty good and always on point. Voice acting is great.
Overall I really enjoyed this donghua and felt very sad whenever I got to the end. It's nowhere near finished, as always, and there is plenty to look forward to if we are graced with a second season. Maybe in 2027 according to some websites.
Definitely worth the watch if your standards aren't too high.

This donghua follows a young student who seemingly has no talent for cultivation. He falls asleep whenever he tries to mediate and his fighting ability is pathetic. Through luck he suddenly breaks the barrier suppressing his talent and unlocks his cheat-like ability to absorb knowledge and learn quickly. He uses his powers to beat up the never ending torrent of arrogant bad guys, make (mostly female) friends and learn about his past.
The story start off pretty weak and remains dull throughout but it does have some slightly interesting parts. The worst part of the progression in this show is that the main character doesn't really
...
have to put any effort in to become stronger. Everything comes extremely easy to him. Another part is the lack of agency over cultivation. He's extremely lucky to keep stumbling over "ancient pool of power" or "ancient fountain of power" or "primordial place of power" which keep allowing him to just sit down, absorb the "essence" and ascend to a new level. It feels incredibly unsatisfying.
The characters come and go. Baddies are introduced and die shortly after, and the sidekicks just share a short adventure with the MC before getting sidelined. Only one of the sidekicks gets a tiny bit of a backstory, but other than that there's nothing. I got faintly attached to a few of them to be honest however. They're not bland sidekicks, they're just more of a device to the current plot line than anything else.
Animation is bad. It would have looked dated in 2013., let alone in 2023.
Fighting scenes are fine. There's some creative use of abilities here and there but it suffers at the hands of the cheap animation.
There's 10 minutes per episode (not 12) with at least one fight per episode to I guess keep people interested, which really doesn't leave much time for compelling storytelling but it was enough to keep me somewhat interested and entertained. The last few episodes are a slog to get through though and the worst part is that the story is not even close to finished. I don't think this will ever get a sequel and if I knew what state this would be left at by the end I'd have thought twice before watching it all. I'm utterly dissatisfied.

A rather good cultivation donghua. It follows a young man with an exceedingly strong talent for combat and spiritual development. He undergoes a special trial in the spirit world that only powerful young cultivators can go through, but for some reason that is not explained he gets kicked out and branded a "drop-out". This label sticks to him for quite a bit and it causes friction with his peers. There is a lot of friction actually. An episode doesn't go by where someone isn't actively trying to get into a fight with the main protagonist for many different reasons and the conclusion is always "how
...
could someone like you beat me?!?!, no way!". The story in this season goes through two acts. Each with a different setting, different goals, and mostly different cast of characters. Ultimately it's just the main character getting more powerful for the sake of being more powerful so that he can protect his family and loved ones.
The character cast is varied. The friends are kind and loyal, the bad guys are arrogant and angry. The most memorable character besides the MC is the father who is alive and who actually has a healthy relationship with his son which is so very rare in donghuas from my experience. There is also the spirit animal who is clearly the most interesting character but sadly doesn't get much of a backstory. All of the supporting cast goes through varied and enjoyable levels of character development. Although they have a tendency to just stop existing all of a sudden.
Animation is pretty good. I feel like it gets better and better over the run of the show. Combat scenes are very showy, utterly predictable and have an overwhelming tendency to devolve into a Beam-O-War type of battle that gets decided whenever the MC yells out with a strained voice and makes a pushing motion. They are still fun to watch though. He learns a handful of different abilities throughout the show and you'll begin to predict when he'll use which ability.
Music is fine. There is this one rock music piece that they use over and over whenever the MC shows up at the last second to save one of his friends that got on my nerves after a while though. It happens that often, yes.
Overall I enjoyed it. I've seen better and also worse. Any fan of cultivation donghua will find this a decent enough experience.

What an incredible donghua. I watched all three seasons in a week and I haven't been this immersed in a while.
It's a cultivation show following a lone cultivator as he basically just tries to stay alive. The goal of every cultivator is to become all-powerful and the main protagonist is no exception. What Han Li has over others though is his good and bad luck. He is extremely prone to making enemies of powerful people but that in it's way helps him become stronger through adversity. And there is a lot of adversity to be had.
The story moves through so many different plots,
...
regions, factions and characters and all of it is presented expertly. The characters are very memorable and well written and portrayed. Maybe the first season is a bit iffy but it gets so much better. The largest issue to me is the women. There is quite a lot of them, and they all develop feelings for the main protagonist pretty much instantly. The problem though is that it never leads anywhere. It's beyond frustrating. Especially since all of them are gorgeous in and out.
The animation is great, though sometimes the motion cap gives off creepy uncanny valley vibes. The action and fight scenes are superb. Music exists. Voice acting is great.
It's definitely worth a watch. It's not finished though. I can't wait for more!

It's set in an era when humans are colonizing space. One of the planets they colonized is this one. A planet that's occupied by vicious beasts and aliens who look and talk like humans but have cultivation superpowers. They are not friendly though and attack space humans because they can drain their souls to increase their cultivation level. The space human colony is one large futuristic city that's heavily fortified with sci-fi defenses. Along with that there is also an alien hunting bureau that defends the city and goes on expeditions into the wilderness to defeat the aliens. To do this the space humans use
...
futuristic weapons and a "holy" power that's basically a cultivation power as well. So there is pretty much no difference between the space humans and the alien humans.
The "story" follows the main character whose only backstory is that he is a slacker without talent for fighting and his sister was taken by the alien humans. He gains a cheat superpower that allows him to roll a dice to get a random overpowered ability. A lot of these are "silly" but the whole donghua is so terribly unfunny it's just sad. He uses the ability to defeat baddies, gain holy power and confidence and defeat more baddies. That's the whole plot. The characters are extremely one dimensional and mostly just serve to deliver a sentence each in succession whenever something happens that warrants a comment.
The fighting scenes are pretty bad. The animation is below average. The music is whatever. The voice acting is lifeless. The whole production is extremely low budget and it really shows.
It's not awful though. As it mostly beats staring at a blank wall.

This donghua is set in the Han period of ancient China. Specifically during the Xiongnu campaign. I don't know anything about ancient Chinese history but this series does seem to trail (somewhat) the historical accounts and it taught me a bit.
The story follows a group of martially gifted individuals who go from causing trouble in the capital to embarking on an epic Journey to the West. The driving force of the story is the main protagonist who first needs to help his brother who got hastily sentenced to death and then realize his own newly found ambition. Story-wise it's not that interesting.
The cast of characters
...
is very varied, but ultimately also uninteresting as character development is barebones. The main attraction of the show is probably the spectacle factor. Slow motion combat, chase scenes, crazy martial arts, impressive scenery, marching soldiers, oriental dancing, impossible archery, constant battles and some questionable song scenes.
Visually it's stunning. I watched it in 4k and I cannot fault it on anything in the visual department. It's one of the best looking donghua's I've seen. Characters and motion-cap are superb.
As for music. I think the studio made some sort of partnership with a rap group as they hit you with these random rap songs out of nowhere a few times. Most of the music is also very modern. Which in a way helped me with taking the show less seriously and let me just enjoy it for what it is. The music is good. The rap is meh.
It's a great looking lighthearted mediocrity with a short runtime.

A fun donghua.
It's about a young man who, due to adversity, wants to become a powerful warrior. He joins a martial arts school and thanks to his weird unexplained sci-fi ability and hard work becomes stronger and rises through the ranks. It's not that simple though.
The story shifts and develops multiple times throughout. It starts off just being your regular martial arts anime and then becomes a multi-plot medley of friendships, ambition, revenge, scheming and broken promises. There whole story is based around one geographical area with a multitude of small factions, two major factions and one prominent city. A city that one major
...
faction holds, and the other wants. No one is safe. It's a ruthless place, and the main protagonist just wants to live in peace.
The action and fighting are pretty mediocre, but enjoyable enough. The fun part of the combat is how savage it is. Getting stabbed through with blood spattering, necks snapped, throat punches, acid burns etc.. It's got a good balance of being graphic without being gory.
The animation, art style and music are all fine. Subpar at worst.
I enjoyed this a lot more than I though I would after the first few, pretty meh, episodes. I'm glad I didn't drop it.

What a great show. It's basically Lex Luthor vs Superman. The main character has a personal and a very powerful grudge against a man who is invincible, impossibly fast, impossibly strong and can fly. He is also the world's "Hero" and as such the main protagonist took upon themselves the role of the villain in order to defeat Superman. After years of battles they had their final showdown and inexplicably our villain time traveled back to his high school years, where he shared a class with the teenager who would become Superman. With this incredibly opportunity he swears to himself that he'll be victorious this
...
time.
It's incredibly entertaining. The storytelling is tight and easy to follow which is helped by the great array of characters. Be it the villains, or the other villains, or the other other villains, or the heroes, or just regular people, they are all great. The character development is rather simple and predictable, but the personalities are so fun to watch it doesn't matter.
There is action, there is drama, comedy, a few twists but most of all just unpretentious fun.
The animations, effects, environments and character expressions are all great. Music is inoffensive.
I had a blast. I went through this in one afternoon and now I'm left empty. I already miss the Aunt. What an angel.

From awful, to bad, to fine, to actually being pretty cool at the end. That's my journey with this "from zero to hero" donghua.
It's set in a world of "Soul Masters" who "tame" monsters, put them in their soul space and then use them in combat. The protagonist, and the viewer are thrown into a ruthless world of the survival of the fittest. Summoners fight each other for a place at the top by any means necessary. Luckily our main protagonist tames a very unique pet that allows him to persevere and thrive.
The story is incredibly confusing due to the fact that the
...
anime explains NOTHING. It's not about it being mysterious or whatever, it's just plain baffling. It's like the production was making the story up as they were making the episodes. New characters, factions, pets, past acquaintances, techniques and areas keep appearing out of nowhere and the anime make it's jarringly obvious that you're supposed to know who or what they are. But we don't! It feels like it's season 2 and I just missed an entire series before watching this. The most interesting part of the story by far happens at the very end, just to end the series at a cliffhanger.
The animation takes some getting used to. Especially the pets. The main pet drove me nuts by how bad it looked. Especially whenever they tried to make it convey emotions but the rigid stuffed animal model wouldn't allow for it so it just looked awful.
The characters are mostly completely forgettable. Every episode there is some incredibly, over the top, arrogant person who wants to beat the main character only to be put in their place. Aside from the opponents there is pretty much noone else to mention as they all suddenly appear only to be a plot device and then disappear as quickly.
Most of this anime is just fighting and "how could someone like YOU defeat ME?!".
It's not terrible. To it's credit, the world is pretty fascinating and there are a few exciting moments but mostly in the last few episodes.
